Factory Door Sill Nameplate XLR

Has anyone replace the factory door sill XLR nameplate? With a new factory nameplate. And if so how do you get the old one off? Is the new one have double face tape on it?

I just replaced both of mine on the V last week. It is real thin aluminum and yes, it is a peel and stick application.

You need something real thin (I used a small flat head screw driver) to get under the current sill plate and you have to be careful not to push to hard on the main sill because it will dent. Once you get it started, it peels right off. I used denatured alcohol to get the leftover sticky off before putting the new one on. That took the most time.

Get use to lining up and dropping the new one in before removing the strip of tape because once it sticks, there is no going back. Mine cost $53 each plus shipping @ gmpartsdirect so I didn't want to start over.

I decided to go with the lit XLR from King Penn in the blue color but they go over the plastic part beside the seat and go on and off when you open the door and go out when with the interior lights that where they wire into also. Here is some pics!

I've just ordered replacement logo inserts for the sill plates on my V. Both sides have what appear to be aluminum oxidation "scabs" that look sorta like cigarette burns at a few places around the edges. I'd like for this to be avoided with the new inserts. Reckon some kind of clear silicone around the edges would prevent foreign element "creep" around and under the edges causing this to occur? Has this happened with any of your sill inserts? Thanks for any input.

BTW, I'm also on the verge of springing for the King-Penn illuminated "sills" if I can decide on the look preferred. The ones up the thread a ways look very nice!

Yes my decal door sills on my Roxy are just XLR for the regular base model ( not V) but funny thing I just this weekend cleaned the crusting off the outer edges, mixed up silver/black to a grayish paint color to match and touch them up for car shows, just wondering on replacement cost? I would think they could be coated with a exterior clear coat ( Shinny or Satin) to help protect the original finish! As for the King Penn lighted sills tell them I Daniel Gouker from PA sent you to them and they told me they would give any new referral customers a discount . Stephen, Ashli, & Kent know of me. I believe 10% discount is what they said they would offer! I'm one of there regular customer! I have the newest the XLR / Blue lighted Door Sills and the newest updated water fall interior control box & Remote controlled 7 colored function / all time 3rd brake lighted WindRestrictor! I spent the time to hot wire my for car shows I added 2 switches to run each the WindRestrictor & Door Sills from the battery to stay on all the time while displaying Roxy at evening car cruzin's! Both of my sill inserts had the corrosion spots on them that appeared to be salt water spots. My V was a Florida car before I purchased it so I figured it wasn't road salt. I didn't have anything around the edges except some dirt that I was able to clean out with a scratch awl. The sill plate is CNC'd with such tight tolerances that it will be difficult to put silicone around the edges with out causing a mess on the V sill insert. But I'm thinking about "me and silicone", I always use to much no matter what I'm using it for...... Also, aluminum looks nice when it's clean but there are tons of cleaning solutions that will ruin anything aluminum.

My Driver Side Sill Plate Had The Oxidation [Scabs]. You Are Right It Looks Like A Cigarette Burns On The Edge. My Car Only Has 13000 Miles On Her. I Would Love To Know What Cause It. The Car Was Never In Bad Weather. Have You Remove Them? Be Very Careful Its Hard To Get Started But Then It Peel Right Off. I Think They Cost Way To Much For What They Are. But They Look Alot Better When You Have New Ones On.

I purchased my V Logo sill plates from Ebay for $60 each with no additional shipping costs. GM Parts Direct had them priced at $54-something each, but the added shipping and HANDLING charges pushed them significantly higher than the Ebay price. GMPD is known for a rather high surcharge... part of their business model, I suppose.
