I like to think of it as a built in cup warmer.... Both my XLRs had/have the same issue. Not sure of a way to fix it.

I believe that in 06 GM put a different heat resistant product in the tunnel area. I don't think anything can be done easily.

I believe you may be right, the center console/cup holder area in my 2006 does not get hot.

Check out the "Subframe Support" thread on the technical forum. This may provide some ideas for heat reduction in the tunnel/console area.

I thought I came across a thread or post sometime ago on here, But don't no where or how to find it I thought it said "Simple fix for hot console" I wish down I'd checked it out when I saw it.

Elite Engineering makes a thermal tunnel plate that really helps this problem in Corvettes. The question is, do Corvettes and XLR's have the same fastener pattern for the part? It seems I wrote them once about this and never heard back. It is worth looking in though, as on my Corvette the part helps a lot.

My Corvette is a C5 or I could do the research myself.
Hope this helps.

Smile Helps here!

Grand daddy I have the solution for u which isn't fully tested yet, but can bet yah it work's. I just did the following things. I doubled up my subframe tunnel plate which isn't necessary in your situation, anyways take your original plate have it ceramic coated. Then buy heat reflective mating through any performance place you'll need a foot x 3-4 feet and put adhesive matting on plate but leave cutout's for bolt heads. I also had my h-pipe ceramic coated this will keep exhaust heat in the pipe and out through the exhaust. Also makes the underneath look really nice. Now you'll contain the heat and the matting and the ceramic coated plate will reflect any thing missed. Only place I saw that could use any other mods if necessary would bend some metal and make heat reflectors for the cats theirs nothing. Hope that will help yah

I know I'd rather know that I can get where I'm going with run flats - albeit slower - than be stuck possibly in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire. Not to mention possible body damage because of the non-run flat flat tire. When I'm in the market for tires, I WILL be getting run flats.

This forum has really mixed views on run flats... I have had 2 XLRs and think the run flats are awful. The minute you change them you will notice a huge improvement in the ride.. (this is only my opinion, I respect that others feel different)

Grand daddy don't know your area but I would think any powder coating company has the ability. Ceramic coating is the same process just ceramic not plastic. Ceramic has been around and worked for years. Used a lot in my drag cars. Only cost 100 bucks to do plate and h-pipe. As for run- flats been told by MANY in vette and others that the michelins are the best ride of all that's why caddy used them. Heard the good years are hard, pirrelies arn't that bad. Personally feel the ride could use some softening but WILL NOT play with the devil. If something happened to Stella were she would have to get painted, GARBAGE have to get rid of her. Can't have that! Good luck.

Now I am really wondering about ride of run flats because when I bought mine it had Goodyear Ultra A/S Eagles that are not run flats and these don't ride all that great, but it could also be that they are in pretty bad condition. I am seriously checking out the Pirelli tires my tire man thats sells us tires for our biz said 4 on the car with Nitrous in tires for less $800.00! The other questionI have is all the work to cool the center console sounds like alot work for my home garage does it all need to be done from the underside of the car, I don't have an available lift?
