My XLR/V(s):
2004 XLR
Default Retractable Top Problem, NEED HELP

I bought my 2004 XLR back in late October, then started to have problems with the top on occassion soon after. The top would retract into the trunk but the trunk would stay up at its highest point. This was intermittent but then on Dec 24th when it stalled, I was putting it back up when the driver's quarter window shattered. This also bent the two quarter window alignment arms on both sides. After replacing the parts there myself I still have not tried to take the top down again.

My question is around the problem that many 2004 XLR owners seem to have encountered with a faulty microswitch over the passenger windshield area. I have been trying to find a part number or specific part name that I can look for but have been unsuccessful. Can anyone help me find this? Maybe someone who had the microswitch(s) replaced in the past?

If someone has another direction that I should be looking as well I would appreciate any tips or advice. Thank you.

I had the trunk lid hang up in the air, same type of performance on my 2007 - here is what was found from my July 2010 post:
From the Cadillac service note: " ...found folding to position sensor not agreeing when in position. Sensor faulty. (Service writer told me it was a potentiometer. Makes sense). Replaced folding top position sensor. Recalibrated and programmed with latest sw. "
FP Number 19210515 Switch 14.483 That is all the detail that I can provide.

Good Luck!

The switch you're referring to in the windshield header is pretty reliable.

The most likely culprit will be a position sensor(s). A five-minute diagnostic scan at your dealer with their Tech 2 will reveal the source of the problem. This probably isn't a DIY project, especially if you've had alignment issues that damaged folding top components prior to this.

I highly recommend you have a certified XLR tech inspect your Folding Top to ensure you have the latest and greatest firmware updates, sensor calibration and mechanical tolerances verified to avoid any potential for avoidable and expensive repairs later.
