2007 Light Platinum XLR
Default Pennsylvania XLR Trip June 9-16 2012

I promised Bruce and Supa that I would put something out to test the waters concerning interest in a spring or fall tour of Gettysburg, Hershey (chocolate town) and Lancaster Amish Country in Pennsylvania for 2012. As I am retiring in January this would give me something to do with my 'free time'. With the chilly temperatures and spring showers in the Northeast I was thinking early May. If the fall is more appealing for the leaf peeper crowd we could also look at September / October. What do you all think?

Since you will be a retired State police officer I take it that we will all be immune from any speed limits and nasty tickets? Sounds great to me!

Supa & I are up for it. No outstanding wants or warrants in PA, or any of the states we'd be travaling in to get there.

Thanks for starting the thread Hatty. What is your opinion on when the best time is to go? I know we talked about it on this last trip and a few of the people showed interest.

You are going to LOVE going to PA ..... so much to do, so much to see .... and so much history .... Independence Hall is a 'can't miss' opportunity - thier 'We the People' peformance just makes you so glad that you are an American.

You guys are so lucky to have a native to work with for an agenda .....
I guarantee this will be one of the best trips you ever take -

OMG and all of the Philly Sandwiches you can eat ...

For all: I was thinking the spring with the warmer temperatures would be better. I was originally thinking about 2-3 days in Gettysburg then moving to Hershey, PA to base. From there we have the Academy, Hershey events with the Chocolate tour, and a 20-30 mile drive to Lancaster County to the Amish Country (as a day trip). If most would like to include some of Philadelphia into the mix keep in mind that this is another 2.5 hours east of Harrisburg (without a tail wind) one way. I will leave it open to discussion until July and then I will need to firm things up in order to hold hotel rooms and get some door prizes set up with the local dealers, venues, etc.

Default Long drive

A quick google map puts this at least 4 - 10 hour days of driving to get there so I doubt we would be driving.

Sounds good to me. I would love going to the Academy. I can start adding Police Academy to my must have pics just like the fire stations.

"The Academy" .....Well West Point (the real Academy) is within driving distance and it produced 564 Union General officers plus 401 Confederate General officers so it fits the theme. However, perhaps it is safer/better to keep Supa away from those young cadets.....

Just a thought.......
