2006 Light Platinum XLR
Question Vmax

Does anyone have a handle on what the top speed is for a base (stock) XLR? Are there software limits on it?

My motorcycle (Suzuki Hayabusa) came from the factory with a government-mandated top speed of 300 kph (186 mph), and the timing was retarded in the first 2 gears by the ECU. It had no hardware limitations, and was still geared for >200mph. There (thankfully) existed work-arounds that spoofed the ECU and avoided the limitations. (Heh, Heh...)

What I'm wondering is if there are any such "soft" limits on our cars?

Tim

I'm SURE that anyone with such experience only drove that fast on an approved track...

I believe all US autos are limited to 155MPH; there are ways to remove the limit, but I haven't looked into doing that... the car is fast enough as it is for me.
The fastest I've had my base has been 141MPH. It was still climbing, albeit rather slow, but I backed off because the front end was getting a tad "floaty". I've since put on the rear stabilizer, but haven't had the opportunity to test the speed (as of yet... anyway) ---

Almost any good tuner can remove the speed limiter. My guy also adjusted the shift points in performance mode, modified the retard and fuel flow to match my bigger intake, and modified the rev limits.

All that said an intake and a tune will yield another 25-50HP and removing the speed limiter during the tune takes an extra minute or two.
