The end-all DRL modification

Thanks for all of this information. Is there only one kind of 3157 socket? I would think they are application specific for the housing they go in to - but I could be wrong (would not be the first time! LOL).

I am still undecided if I am going to do it at all. I am also considering sending the lights out to get new lenses, both are burned.

I don't use my DRL's. When you start the vehicle, rotate the outer ring on light control on the stalk down to turn them off. It turns off the automatic light control and the DRL's. If I needed to use DRL's, I'd just turn on my headlights. Easiest fix for all of this, IMOO.

Actually, manufacturers had to equip vehicles with DRL's after a certain MY. DRL's are not enforceable due to vehicles built before the safety mandate was put in place. For example, 1986 MY and newer vehicles were required by to have a CHSML, or third brake light installed by the manufacturer in order to certify the vehicle for sale in the US - just like passive restraints, airbags, etc...According to your theory, it would be illegal to operate a vehicle without retrofitting all of the newer technology. Operating a motor vehicle of any type when using your wipers is a federally mandated law.

Well its not a therory. Its facts. If the car is equipped from the factory , it has to be in working order. My 65 mustang does not have a third brake light. My 2025 does and if its not working its a ticket. My 65 mustang does not have shoulder harness but my 25 does. If its not hooked up, its a ticket. My 65 has one brake light bulb . my 25 has leds about 8 of them. if one is burnt out , its a ticket. Thats why xlr owners get thier taillights repaired when one led burns out, it does not pass inspection.. If a car is equirped with a dot required item it has to be in working ircer. Some csrs automaticly turn the headlights on when it rains. You are not required to retro fit, but you are. required to turn them on by whatever means when it rains.thats all statrs.

Look, I think you're heading down the wrong path on this. Federally mandated safety improvements are just that. They are recommended and approved by the DOT, who then makes them a requirement for the manufacturer to make install these features into their build so they are in compliance to operate on US roads. Headlights on with wipers on is a federally mandated law, as all vehicles have wipers and headlights. Older cars do not have the electronics that newer cars have, so they must be manually activated. Cars have seatbelts, so they must be worn while operating a motor vehicle. Cars built after 1975 must have catalytic converters installed. These are Federal laws. It's not against the law to drive a 1970 Corvette because it does not have catalytic converters, airbags or a third brake light, but it is against the law to not use your wipers without turning on you're headlights. All cars have headlights and windshield wipers. DRL's are not headlights. Most people I see nowadays forget to turn on their headlights on newer cars because they have their DRL's on only, so at night, the rest of their their lights are off except for the DRL's. I have never received a ticket for not using the DRL's, as it's not a law in my state. As for having a single LED out or even a few of them out should not constitute a ticket. I see many early 90's Seville and Eldorado's who have conventional bulbs in the tail lights, but the third brake light was an early adopter of LED technology. I see quite a few that have a 1 or more single LED's that are out, but that is a result of an early technology that has been approved upon. If the police in your area are cracking down on single LED's that are part of a larger matrix, maybe it's an indictment of your driving manners. Have a safe holiday weekend, and remember our troops who have fallen, as well as those who are deployed.

So you said the samething i did in a who!e lot more words. Ii am fully aware of fed mandates abd what the law requures. i see people driving with leds out, i see people speeding. Dors not make it legal.if you have state inspection or driving in a state thst dies and you have leds out you are subject to a ticket. usually written in conjunction with other violations. But you be you and ill continue obeying the law. The everyone else gets by with it went away with me after kindergarten
Have a nice wekend and yes remember those who are no longer with us.
