Sometimes if I'm running late to an appointment and the top is already up, I'll just head to where I'm going. Some of the traffic lights in San Diego are 3+ minutes long, so those are good places to lower it (if you drive up at the beginning of the red light cycle).
I totally agree....always too nervous to lower my top at a red light....would hate to have everyone wait behind me. Wish the cycle was just slightly faster.
Is the XLR the only retractable hardtop that lifts up the tonneau panel instead of tilting back (like Mercedes, BMW, etc)?
ECurtis- It's the hill on Genesee Ave in University City/52 freeway by the high school and Rose Canyon.
The hill by the airport is a speed trap too!!
I tested my car the other day.....1st gear is good all the way to 45 mph before shifting into 2nd ;-)
Haven't really seen too many posts on here...
Yeah....that is definitely one short-coming of the cruise control.
There's a very steep, large downwards hill by my house that is a known speed trap (motorcycle cops hide out at the bottom of it and issue hundreds of tickets). I'll set the cruise at 45 mph, but the car always creeps up to 51-55...
Thanks for the quote from the owner's manual. Sounds like our transmission is actually quite advanced ;-)
What's shocking is I was test-driving a 2013 Jaguar F-Type when the dealer was freaking out and telling me it would damage the auto transmission to put in 1st gear above 10 mph??! Either he...
Hi All,
Has GM ever released suggested shift points for the 5 speed automatic XLR?
For example, at what speed is it ok to downshift into 2nd gear, into 1st gear, etc?
The reason why I'm asking is I recently test drove another car, and the salesperson told me NEVER to downshift into 1st gear if...
I just looked again on GMpartsDirect- apparently, in addition to the switch I posted about earlier (19210515), there are also:
Position sensor green for $46.84
Position sensor red for $47.36
I'm not sure how these are all different. For some reason I thought all the switches were the same, but...
I'm looking through all of my receipts, and it seems like the sensors are all the same part #.
I could have sworn I replaced 4, but maybe it was just 3 of them? Or perhaps the owner before me replaced 1 of them before I bought the car in 2009?
The technician could tell which ones had been...
Yeah- I agree with the posts. Just take it to any decent upholstery shop, and they can fabricate a new piece using the original as the template. Shale is a VERY VERY common leather color.
I had my driver's side bolsters replaced. Was much cheaper having it fabricated versus buying the GM parts...
Thanks for the ideas.
I thought about velcro, but I'd imagine it would get messed up whenever I take it to a full service car wash.
Push pins might work though....I'll try that!
Wow- sounds like your dealer is not very familiar with XLRs!
I cringe that as time goes on, finding experienced folks to work on our cars will be a challenge. Are you based in Victorville, CA? If so, it might be worth the 2 hour drive to San Diego to have Marvin K Brown work on your car....you...
Hi All,
My check engine light came on due to a loose gas cap.
Is there a way to reset it, or do I have to wait a few days/weeks for it to just clear on its own?
Thanks,
Mark
Hi All,
I have Lloyd Floor Mats in my 2005 XLR.
The passenger floor mat only has 1 fastener to hold it in place....and that it just not enough. (wish it had 2 fasteners like the driver side mat)
The mat is constantly moving out of place/bunching up as passengers get in and out.
Is there a...
Wow- I've experienced your same problem a few times during my 4 years of ownership. Very frustrating! Thank goodness using the convertible raise/lower switch allows access to the trunk.
When having issues, I've tried the valet switch, but only one cycle....and not the 2 you described....so...
Congrats. You'll have to post a video or audio clip. I'm curious how they sound on a regular, non-XLR-V model.
I've looked on Youtube, but couldn't this posted anywhere.
Hi All,
I'm not sure about you, but whenever I park in a garage- I always look for the spot with the highest ceiling level.
Because of the unique way our top retracts (unlike the typical clam-shell), I'm often concerned that there's not enough vertical clearance to open the trunk lid to...
I love the rims of the red XLR on the right side of madcurl's photo.
Well, the good news is that most owners seem to take good care of their XLR's. Haven't seen any that are dirty or beaten up.
The plastic panels will never rust ;-)
Curious how well the paint will hold up over the years?
A...
Great.....thanks everyone.
We've had unusually cold weather here in SD- so I'm sure that's impacting the cylinders.
Thanks for the idea for using generic replacements....I'll check at PepBoys.
Well, good to know I'm not the only that has happened to. Sounds like it's easy to fix. :D
Are there different part #'s for the left lift cylinder versus the right lift cylinder?
I tried ordering on GMPartsdirect, and the only part # showing up is: 10446862
Thanks!
