After almost 11 months (yes, eleven) I finally got all the parts and my car is operating as it should.
What I've learned:
Even though mine is a dry California car, it got stuck in a parking lot last Christmas (2011) during a rain storm. Looking at the "watermarks" in the storage...
Polymers give you a good hard coat of protection, and lots of shine, but you really need a wax or glaze to add depth, and really make that blue sparkle. Modern waxes with a high Carnuba content go on easy and last for months, depending on how the car is used. Adam's was recently made the...
It also could be unplugged. When I have it open for extended periods I sometimes disconnect it. It's a small connector, ls of car, back by the hood hinge.
As mentioned, it only stays on for about 5 minutes after first opening the hood.

updated!!!
Okay, GM finally got suspension control modules back in inventory. After cleaning everything I plugged it in and fired her up. Great news, no more warning messages! I listened to her idle for a few, then tried to close the trunk. Nothing. Apparently the pump is shot also. I closed it...
Lots of Corvettes and Oldsmobile Toronados, only one person owned up to owning a Vega. Okay, I'll fess up to owning a Vega also, and I miss it! It was a 1972 wagon with a 383 stroker. Lot's of other cars too.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS!!! The good news is this one is a 2006, and parts are available, the computer retails for around $500.00. Just check this compartment, if it has standing water, or shows evidence of it be very cautious. Also, make sure the top retracts normally. These...
Well, I am about out of ideas. My dealership now tells me there may not be modules until October. The shop I sent mine can't rebuild it. This is ridiculous, my XLR has been expensive driveway art since the beginning of the year. My dealership is on my side, but without parts there just isn't...
Six months went by, and now it's July (With apologies to Zappa for using his lyrics) and still no module, and now GM is "thinking" October. I guess they mean October 2012, but I'm not sure. Well I found a facility that will rebuild my unit, I'm sending it out Monday. Nothing to lose I figure...
There are people rebuilding some computer modules for cars, I just haven't found one that will do the XLR yet. My dealer is actually embarrassed by the ridiculous long wait, but they can't do anything. Chris heath at Rippy is also very helpful, but if they aren't available not much anyone can...
This is insane, I am looking for the same part since last January (2012). I am now told it may not be available until October (2012). I am now looking for sources to rebuild mine.
Cadillac Customer Care, if you are listening some would be appreciated.

P/N I'm looking for is 10348979, and...
Okay, not a XLR specific event, but a very good way to learn how to get the most shine out of your XLR. This is a fun, no cost event, free coffee, donuts and product samples, hand waxing, claying, Porter Cable and Flex polishing.
