    XLR Hacks

    1. I had Trickle Charger/Battery problems last Winter. This Spring the trunk would unlatch when I opened the Drivers Door! Then the trunk started opening and closing with no key or person nearby. I determined the Battery was dead and installed a new Premium one. Problem continued. In...

    Mystery operation

For no apparent reason my Trunk lid opens while it is in Winter Storage. It even happens when vehicle is locked. It will repeatedly open then close. Shorted wiring somewhere? It also sometimes opens when the drivers door is opened. Any guidance would be appreciated, Gord Baker

    Trunk Lid Malfunction.

Subsequent to getting a cleaning rag caught under the left front corner of the XLR Trunk lid. Now when I open the drivers door, the Trunk lid goes up. Obviously a wiring or module problem. Anyone have a similar situation or fix? It is a 2008. Thank You. This place has changed completely...

Trunk raises when drivers door is opened

I managed to pinch some car cover in between roof and back of trunk lid when closing the Trunk Since then, sometimes when I open the Drivers Door the Trunk lid begins to raise. Some relay somewhere is causing a 5.6 Amp battery drain with all systems Off and doors locked. Any clues? 2008 XLR.

    Exterior Hood opening device

Being a recent victim of crap GM Delco Batteries - Denali and XLR, I purchased an old Choke cable at a Swap Meet. It took a bit of 'rigging' but I was able to attach a short (2") loop of wire to the release lever at the hood latch where the factory cable ends and run the cable down in front of...

    Coolant Flush and Refill XLR

Does anyone have experience in Draining, Flushing and refilling the Cooling system on an 2008 4.6 XLR? I know about the Distilled Water etc, how much is needed to flush? 4 Gal I expect. Heater ON or is Coolant always circulating through the Heater Core? Remove bottom Rad hose etc. Does it...

    Important! Retractable Hardtop problem solved

This may help someone; it worked for me. Problem began when I tried to raise top and the trunk compartment separator was not in perfect position. There is a micro switch on the left side where the panel fits into the slot. I corrected that and it worked. Returning from the show and at home...

    "V" Hood for XLR

Due to a big gust of wind, the Hood which was up was blown over the roof of my 08 XLR, causing serious structural damage to the hood and ripping out the 4 strut anchors. It was a pricey repair but the good news is that by changing the VIN to one from a V supercharged car, I was able to obtain...

    Help! CD's won't eject 08 XLR

Any thoughts on how to get CD's to eject? Have tried the 'Force Eject" pushing Power and Eject buttons simultaneously for 10 secs. Only a gear slipping noise. Have tried the sticky tape on long thin item but no luck. Not sure if stored discs are above or below slot. I think below. Anyone...

    Important! Battery Tender

For those of you who park your XLR's for the Winter Months, this may be of interest. If you already have a pricey Battery Tender, don't bother reading further. I use a 12VDC 3-500 ma (1/2 Amp or less) to maintain batteries of cars in storage. It worked for decades with previous Corvettes. I...

    2008 Caddy Hearse

I attended a funeral last week and took 3 photos of the headlights on the Hearse. It was a 2008 model according to manual but no Model. I think that if it was really necessary, these headlights could be adapted to an XLR. I have no further info on them and don't know if they are available. I...

    Important! XLR Headlight Assemblies

ALL: Last week I contacted a highly placed GM Executive and pleaded our case of Headlight Assemblies, CHMSL and other items. I received this info today in regard to Headlights. Although at present I don't need one, I certainly want to be able to get one. This is the response: Good Afternoon...

    Important! XLR Headlights

I am not sure if there are any members in this forum that are with GM Cadillac. Perhaps someone knows upper tier personnel at Cadillac such as Chief Marketing Officer Uwe Ellinghaus etc. If Cadillac would design one of their new models that incorporated late model XLR Headlights then it would...

Help! 2008 XLR Heated Steering Wheel FUSE LOCATION

Well, out of the garage, mid winter dry day and I tried to find the Heated Steering Wheel Fuse. It is not in the Owners Manual and on line, the fuse panel on Pass. side does not have the bottom fuse block with 12 fuses shown in some answers to this question. Not there anywhere. In the 800+page...

    RTFM

While waiting for Spring and dry roads I started reviewing the online Owners Manual for my 2008 XLR. Line by line. Only had to consult my 4 Volume Service Manual once. The Nav/Radio section 4 is only 84 pages and answers many questions (one of mine included) that I have seen in this forum...

    News: Good~Year Eagle RS-A P235/50ZR18 EMT 97W

After 2 frustrating visits to my GM Dealer and a call to Good~Year Customer relations, my dealer tells me that there are no more of the above 'Run-Flats' available. Good~Year will not warranty any tire over 6 years old I was told, even if new. They do not give a time frame for retirement. The...

    Speedometer and HUD

While on tour today with top down and AC on (nice to have cooled seats) I noticed that the dash Speedometer was in MPH and the HUD was in Metric! I liked that setup, living in Canada. When I restarted the car, both systems were in MPH. No idea how that happened although I had been pressing...
