Anyone have a good factory Radio & AMP?

Mine *seems* to work, but I'm gutting my car to track down some issues and convert the interior and the exterior of the amp looks pretty rough and I can see some corrosion on some of the circuit board. Seems like now is a good time to replace it while I have everything apart anyway.

My radio mostly works, but the screen looks horrible and I noticed that one of the buttons doesn't work (volume)

I have a radio/head unit from a 2004 XLR in working condition that I will sell for $400. The amp unit is still in my car though. Let me know if you are interested.

Want to let you know that the head is tied to the VIN in the BCM and won't come on unless it is correct. It doesn't seem practical to spoof with something on the Class2 bus and I haven't found someone who can reprogram the VIN on either.

If you come across an amp, I'd be interested in your bad-ish one. I'm trying to put together a bench setup on the cheap to expand the reverse engineering I did on my own install a couple years ago. My real challenge is finding a BCM and head unit that are VIN matched for a really good price.

That's not exactly what I experienced. I did swap in the SRX unit to my 06 XLR-V and it did work. Also interesting is that the XLR units I've seen don't have the 'theftlock' label on the unit, but when you look at literally the same head unit in some other Cadillac vehicles, it does have a theftlock label on the bezel. Kinda weird.

With that said, if the radio does lock down, it's pretty easy to unlock these radios. It's just a Class II message.

Interesting! The whole handshaking / initialization sequencing is a big part of what I am building the test rig for. I am certain that i read in the service manual that the radio would lock-out without the expected VIN. Naturally, I can't find it now that I'm looking. I've found errors in the service manual that bled-over from the Corvette, but your experience is what matters and I haven't tried it myself. I do need to go correct some of my posts if the radio isn't bound to the BCM.

Are they unlockable with the Tech2, or does it take another method? I've never needed to, so I haven't looked. I have a feeling I will be locking up a lot while I'm experimenting!

I know that other GM cars have VIN locked radios. I upgraded to a Nav Radio in my '04 Silverado. I believe the dealership simply used a Tech2 to program my truck's VIN into the radio. I also upgraded to a steering wheel with buttons. In order for it to work, the dealership had to call GM Tech Hotline to get them to add the steering wheel buttons as a line item on my truck's feature list into their computer. The dealership then downloaded the BCM calibration file for my truck from GM (with the buttons activated) and flash my BCM. I've read that some features for the C6 Corvette can just be turned on/off from the Tech2.

I have a very good XLR radio and CD player from my '05 with only 45k miles. Let me know if you are interested. I'll be posting it broadly for sale in the next couple of weeks.

I haven't specifically look at Tech II menus for XLR, but generally yeah it can.

If not, I can unlock w/ my software and any generic interface.
