Driving my car today (city driving) suddenly the Temp gauge drops to cold side and the engine hot A/C Off appears in the message center. Stopped to check, the engine was not overheating, the cooling fans were running. Shut off and restarted when cool and experienced the same results. Has anyone experienced this same concern? Appreciate any input :dunno:

Temp Gauge Drops to 0 and Fans turn on

I experienced the temperature gauge drop to 0 (it turned off) and the cooling fans turned on and ran continuously until I shut the car down. This happened for about 10 consecutive days before it finally had an ECM code that the temperature was below expected value - apparently to a Master Mechanic (my brother) it tells them to immediately replace the Thermostat, as it is not operating at the correct temperature. I replaced the thermostat with an original GM thermostat part and the problem went away. Side note that I noticed the thermostat had been replaced by the original owner according to the dealer report about the cars maintenance. It was an aftermarket part that had some differences from GM's (may or may not have an impact on temperature control in my opinion). The outside rim contained evenly spaced holes around the its flange (Not on GM TSTAT). Also, I replaced a busted side tank radiator 3 months prior to replacing this thermostat.

Thanks for the info, hopefully this will help another member. Code P0128 will set when you have a thermostat that is not regulating the coolant temp. properly.

My XLR will blow warm air (heat) most of the time, but then, every once in a while, the air will turn cooler - then go back to warmer air. What could cause this? I mostly notice this when I happen to have the top down and it gets a little too cool (sun goes down on the way home or something) - so I turn on the heat (I refuse to put up the windows when the top is down)... I still want to look :rocker: while driving with the top down.

Any thoughts? :dunno:

AMEN Brother Dave!

Don't knock it till you try it. Smokers like me will tell you, windows up with a wind restrictor behind and very little wind enters the cockpit.

We have several places here that are drive through neighborhoods to see the elaborate Christmas lite scenes and I always wait till its one of the warmest days (above 55), put the top down with the windows up, heat on high, and a thermos of Wassail and go for it! Nice and toasty inside and out.

Now that we've (I've) completely hijacked the OP's thread, I will apologize to him, and maybe we should have a "windows/top" "up/down" poll! Bet it would be as good as Ford vs. Chevy "discussion" (or as we pilots enjoy - and Airbus vs. Boeing" discussion) :bash:

Sorry again Mytime!
