I have just found this site and am interested in this forum., I have not used forums before so im new to this as well. I found what must be the only XLR Cadillac in the southern hemisphere ( im from New Zealand ) . I was looking for a new Vette and a friend showed me a photo of the XLR and at first glance I was not interested. He talked me into going along for a look. " how bad could that be " . we went to a specialists dealer who had the car on behalf , a private import back in 2005 was a one owner and low miles. The car had a flat battery and would not start and the roof would not work, the drivers seat was ripped and some trim pats missing in the front bumper, Not a good start, After we jumped the battery and got it started and the roof came down , I was hooked. I did not even test drive it , I just said I would take it. I have fitted some new wheels that fill out the guards ( 20s ) fixed the seat , the dealer got the bumper trim and its looking good again. All I would like to do now is give it a bit of an exhaust note. My question is how do they sound with just a muffler delete ???
I love the car but im really nervous as parts will be impossible to get in NZ let alone a dealer that can do any repairs so I will be relying on this site for lots of questions and a parts supplier.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on your purchase, just to mention parts are get harder to find even here in the USA. A great purchase for you would be to buy yourself a Tech2 Code reader since your in a position where finding a XLR mechanic may not be easy! As for the Exhaust mine had Corsa already installed when I purchased mine in 2011 and we love it. I don’t know if deleting the mufflers would be a good idea as it may cause other issues. If you need to park your XLR for couple weeks without driving you may consider purchasing a battery tender to keep it charged! Hope all goes well and enjoy your Topless Cruz’in! And if you own a cell phone that gets apps install Tap a Talk app, keeps you up to date and is easy to install pictures. I use it all the time and love it! Cheers

Get the service manuals with that Tech 2, and keep an eye on here and eBay for videos on how to service the top that were put out for the service techs. If you are pretty handy, those plus this forum will put you in a good position to service a lot of things on the XLR.

I don't know much about New Zealand (other than pictures which indicate it's beautiful!), but to the extent you have other Cadillacs there with the Northstar engine, mechanics who work on those should be able to take care of that part of your XLR.

Enjoy! These cars are hard to resist once you see them!

Do you know where I could purchase the service manuals and if a set of used ones may be available to buy from somewhere. And do they have a special name to look for or just called Cadillac XLR Service Manuals?
Thanks Dan

I should have put that in my first response except that's a Mike question & I was feeling lazy! You can get them at helminc.com. They consist of several thick paperback volumes! Sometimes folks post them for sale on here too. Also, seen some posts on here about using digital ones, know nothing about them but here is the info: https://www.xlr-net.com/forums/cadi...service-manual.html?highlight=Service+manuals
