I have been reading through the threads about the problem associated with not being able to shift out of park. I have already had the experience of breaking down and being towed , but not by this issue.... trying to do what I can to be proactive as one never knows when that issue will happen.. .I read the thoughts and some of the solutions, but as a not very mechanical guy, I feel it is something that I would not be able to do..
Since there is not a button to release it,..I had my Mechanic disengage the shift to park...He did it in such a way as it can go back as it was originally without a problem..
Start my baby with my foot on the brake anyway..
Just putting this out there to get some thoughts about what I had done from you knowledgeable enthusiasts...

Have your mechanic check the connection where your shift cable attaches to your transmission.
This link has been found to be worn to cause a problem like you are having. Replacing the part is not a big deal if you have the car on a rack. May not be your problem but its worth a look. If the link is worn no shifting comes next. Search the forum for this problem!!!

Did not have a problem or issue yet
I disengaged it before it had a chance to happen...Was reading so many things about it .. With me not being confident enough to fix it ..Being stuck and having to be towed
I did it preemptively because of that..
So I put it out there to the more knowledgeable forum members as to there thoughts about what I did..
