I have owned a 2005 XLR for 5 years and never serviced the lowering/raising mechanism. Does it require periodic service? I have had no trouble with it.

I'd say the main things are to check the hydraulic oil in the pump and check around in the cubby that the pump is located for water leaks. I don't know about other folks, but I treat all the rubber seals to keep them pliable.

How to check/add to hydraulic fluid for power top?

I see no reference to adding hydraulic fluid in the owner's manual. How do you do it? Where is the reservoir? Do you use standard hydraulic fluid?

The reservoir is located in the rear of the trunk on drivers side. You must lift the carpet to access. At first it appears that the carpet is not meant to be lifted but you can do it but be careful not to damage it. I do not know what fluid to use. I never have needed any.
