#PIC5961: NO FOB DETECTED Message On DIC Possible No Crank Start - (Feb 4, 2014)

Subject NO FOB DETECTED Message On DIC Possible No Crank Start
Models 2004 - 2009 Cadillac XLR
2005 - 2013 Chevrolet Corvette

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment of a "NO FOB DETECTED" message when attempting to start the vehicle.  Vehicle may not crank/start and the vehicle’s doors may not open through passive entry. However, the vehicle will always start when the fob is placed in the IP compartment pocket.  This concern may be the cause of a transistor that is internal to the RCDLR module not operating properly.

Recommendation/Instructions
  1. Be sure the vehicle battery is adequately charged to start vehicle.
  2. Remove the battery from the key fob / transmitter.  Using a DVOM, measure the voltage. Be sure the key fob battery voltage is between 2 to 3 volts.  If not, replace the battery.  Test operation of the vehicle again prior to moving on to step 3.  If the vehicle no longer exhibits a concern, the vehicle is repaired.  If the vehicle still has a concern, proceed to step 3.
  3. While in the vehicle with a known good fob (not placed in the IP compartment pocket), press the Start Button.  Listen for a click noise or a series of click noises from the RCDLR.  If there is only ONE CLICK (instead of a series of clicks), then the transistor internal to the RCDLR is not operating properly. For this condition, replace the RCDLR module with current GM CCA stock.

RCDLR module locations are listed below.

  • The Corvette RCDLR is located above the radio behind the IP trim on the right side.
  • The XLR RCDLR is located on the top right of IP under upper IP pad.
