Models 2004 - 2009 Cadillac XLR
2006 - 2009 Cadillac DTS

This PI was superseded to update model years. Please discard PIC3998A.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The Cadillac XLR and DTS use a single High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamp on each side of the vehicle. These lamps perform both high and low beam headlamp functions through the use of a plate built into the lamp. This plate partially covers the lamp during low beam operation and fully retracts during high beam operation.

When first turned on, HID Headlamps may take a few seconds to reach full intensity. As a result, the flash to pass feature does not operate unless the headlamps are already illuminated.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This is a normal characteristic. No repair attempts should be made.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
