Welcome Bigbizz! Good to see another Southeast PA person with an XLR! Post some pics of the car when you get it, the Gold is a nice color and do not see many of them. Cobra and Mustang sound nice too. I wanted to look at a Goldmist 2006 that was for sale in Fla while I was working there for a...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

@Festus: Thanks for comments on grille! Yes, I liked the 2009 wheels first time I saw them. I got lucky and found another forum member in NY that had a set and drove up to get them. Much nicer than the std 7 spokes with clear coating over polished. I sure wish mine would not have had the plate...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

Here is before & after with front plate bracket and std grille. Blacked out the grille with MarHyde Black Satin paint. Looks much better with Silver body color than with the silver grille (IMO). Added 2009 Platinum wheels too. What state are you in Festus, where you do not need a front plate...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

@Festus: Agreed on the heat gun and interior parts, mine is still pretty hot on low. I used my heat gun on the front bumper of XLR when I took off the UGLY front plate holder (no front plate needed in PA). The screws holding it on had pulled out the cover. I used the heat gun and some nylon bar...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

Festus, Thanks much for the Video link! Is very helpful to see where the clips are and what is behind the console and radio panels. Like you said, pry tools are helpful, I will have to get some. My body guy gave me a tip for removing parts like bumpers and said sometimes they heat the clips up...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

@Festus: Thanks much for pry tool info, will have to get some from Harbor Freight. Let us know how the Backup camera wiring goes (did you follow factory harness on trunk hinges). I ordered two systems for my other vehicles from Crutchfield and worked out well. Will have to check into it for my...

Thanks to both for the pics! Looks like a LOT of wiring behind the console and radio! Hopefully the Metra kit has the correct adaptor to plug into the factory harness? Pry tools come from Eastwood or similar vendor?

@Luluone: Thanks for info and pics, good to know! For you and others doing this yourself, did you have any problems getting the face plate or console covers off without clips breaking? I am concerned about taking these off and having the clips or plastic break. Any special tools needed, or just...

@Festus : Looks nice! Please share some other photos once you get it done and let us know what Pioneer unit you put in and how it works. I may tackle this next year on mine. Thanks

XLR Options Did not know about

It does look like was done at Dealer, since it was shown on a "Cadillac options sheet". Thought maybe these options were factory approved dealer options.

XLR Options Did not know about

Hi members, I follow BaT everyday and last week saw this 2004 XLR come thru and sold. Did not know you could get all these "factory options" on and XLR, let alone a 2004 first model. Things like "Lowering Kit", "3 Pc 19 & 20" wheels", "EridaSpeed Brakes" and "Desert Package", among others...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

Thanks Fireduck69, makes sense. Did you use the Metra adapters for the wiring harness? What brand system did you put in and does it work well with FM reception? I have a Kenwood and a Jensen I retrofit in other vehicles and FM reception is marginal compared to my factory XLR and new Malibu stereos.

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

@Fireduck69 : Good info, thanks. Just wondering if you pulled the “sill plate” to run wires under carpet to back trunk area? Did you pull an interior panel behind the seat as well? Looks like the sill plates are very tight to floor/jamb and may be hard to pry up without breaking? I can see once...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

If you can get the wires to the trunk area and get them out to license plate area (via a little hole in bumper cover possibly) then I would suggest a license plate frame that has a camera mount built into it. I did this for my 2001 GMC truck, and it works very nice. No need to mount camera...

Replaced Radio/Navigation unit in my 2009

@geepapa: Yes, I would be interested as to how the camera wires would be run as well. Looking at the door sill plates, I cannot see how they get removed (unless pull up with clips, but will they break then??). Maybe wires could be run somehow thru console and into truck area, as the back part of...
