You're WAY more likely to scratch or damage the engine cover removing it unnecessarily than leaving it on when swapping out the battery. I would be SHOCKED if anyone in the history of putting new batteries in an XLR ever damaged their engine cover as a result.
For future viewers: There is no need to remove the engine cover as mentioned in this thread. Just disconnect the cables, loosen the battery hold down clamp, remove/replace/reconnect the battery....and tighten down the hold-down clamp. The engine cover has nothing to do with this procedure.
Why? Functional originality. XLR's are already being entered in car shows, and that will more than likely increase as the years go by. The Cadillac/LaSalle Club awards for originality. So that might be one reason.

Back to the topic. Can this Vetronix Tech 2 do a VIN relearn for replacing the navigation/radio/cd player? Is this Tech 2 knockoff any good without the $365 shop manual? Or do I need to drop nearly a Grand getting both?
