What I did with my XLR’s today is washed both of them. Mainly dust with a few bug splats. Tomorrow the base gets its state inspection, which is why I cleaned it up. Less dust = fewer scratches from mechanics messing. Also hit the leather on the V with some Zaino Leather conditioner. It was...
Hello Rob -
I give up, I poked around and even ran a search but couldn’t find the answer. The “Member Garage” I had seems to be unfindable. Did that go away with the new site? Thanks.
Finally a nice day with no humidity & nice temps, took the V out for long run. Early morning, no traffic, no dump trucks (we have too many of those). Enjoyed some throttle stomping, speedy fun! :naughty:
Did my regular Zaino leather treatment today. But before I did that, I just sat for a while in my ‘06 and soaked in the new car smell that’s still there after 14 years and 47k miles, enjoyed the zero gravity seat that I wish I had for a recliner in my den, and just thanked my God above for the...
+1 for Driveguard. Went with run flats based on the advice of a mechanic friend I respect & the picture Pure Zen posted. Nothing is perfect but run flats give me better odds of avoiding disaster.
I generally steer clear of responding in any way to negatively on here, but ... My day job involves a lot of dealing with unpleasant people, along with rebuffing arguments and debates. I come on here for camaradarie and enjoyment, not to re-live my job. This smack down type of stuff is just...
My passenger window does that periodically for no apparent reason. I just go through the window indexing procedure in the manual and it behaves itself for many months (hope I’m not jinxing myself). Give that a shot.
And yes, much as I absolutely adore my XLR, they definitely have quirks...
I’ve had Corsa on my base for quite a while. Guy who installed it said it was the best made after market exhaust he’d ever seen (he wasn’t some newbie either). You know it when you get on it! I didn’t want to deal with drone so I didn’t bother with other options - Corsa promises no drone &...
Did an inside job on mine - put some Zaino leather conditioner (Z-10) on my seats and leather trim, plus used Blackfire interior protectant on everything else. Love the new leather smell from the Zaino.
It was the V’s turn to stretch its legs this weekend. Took it out early Saturday morning to avoid so much traffic (still too many dump trucks  ). Weekend weather was great, almost chilly at speed.
The XLR-V is still the smoothest car I’ve ever driven. Effortless speed & handling.

There’s other pictures in that book (which is a great book & documents the development of the XLR) showing that car out for testing, and also mentioning that GM heavily camouflaged it when it was out and about because they didn’t want people thinking that’s what the car would really look...
Today I took mine on a long top down drive. Scenic back roads then blast down the interstate. She got a work out at all different speeds, throttle inputs, straights and curves. Good times!
Tough call but all else being equal (like you’ve personally checked both cars out & no current major problems), I’d go with the ‘08. ‘04-‘05 had some kinks that weren’t worked out until 2006, are more likely to have more severe DRL cracking/burning, and there are some parts even harder to find...
I’m assuming you followed the info on pgs. 3-33 to 36 in the manual, available here: https://www.xlr-net.com/specs/2006/2k06xlr.pdf. It sounds like you are, but maybe try looking at that if you haven’t.
Other than that I haven’t heard of this problem before, & maybe no one else on here has...
 My thought on smelling WD-40 soaked into something absorbent like Alcantara, although others may like the scent. And I’m thinking it might stain fabric??
Hair spray can possibly smell better, would probably take a few tries to get all of it. Alcantara is finicky to mess with (I...
Ummm ... forget not being an XLR tech and not knowing how to fix XLR’s - whoever did that doesn’t appear to know anything about repairing ANY kind of car.
Sandy - please send Greg condolences from Mike & I. We got to talk to him quite a bit at the 15th Anniversary trip, learning about his military experience, etc. Absolutely stinks that happened to him, really sorry to hear it.
I can throw out a recommendation on getting the paint re-done - if you can swing it, forget about the dealership and look for someone who paints classic cars or customs. I had a similar chip issue where the dealer wanted to re-do the entire panel. I was lucky enough to have a VERY picky friend...
