    recover seats

Yeah, it's wild that the leather looks so bad for 36k. Mine looked pretty horrible at 55k, and I finally had it replaced at 60k. Re-dying is a temporary fix for low-use areas. Have you tried SEM Classic Coat Flexible spray coating? Bottle 17203- GMC 149B Shale. Amazon.com: SEM 17203 Shale...

    recover seats

Hi hawkeye372, My seat bolsters were looking EXACTLY like yours!! I tried every single leather cleaner, conditioner, etc... and even tried re-spraying them. The only solution I was happy with was just biting the bullet and having the panels replaced by an auto upholstery shop. It was $275, and...

    04 cam cover gaskets

Hi Dave, I'm curious what the Corvette mechanic quoted you for the repair cost? I have a similar leak, and the Cadillac dealer wanted $2k.....ouch! -Mark

strange bump on leather seat by left thigh- how to remove driver's side seat cover?

Hi all, I'm feeling something sharp right under my left thigh. I tried to move it around----feels like maybe part of the heated seat components? I'm afraid it's going to break through the perforated later. Is there an easy to remove the seat cover to inspect? I don't seem to see any hot ties or...

Both Lift Cylinders for Hood Shocks Failed?

No need to buy the GM-specific version. The hood struts are very generic parts-----bought generic ones from O'Reillys, and they have worked flawlessly for 1/2 the price! --------------------------------------------

I have 92k, so long over-due to change mine!!!

How many of you shift gears yourself on a regular basis? Any issues?

$350-400 isn't so bad! One thing that stopped me from getting a MB SL500 is that they have a lot of transmission issues- the electronic shifter won't engage, and typical repair is $2000-$3500+ ouch. Agree completely with both you and your husband regarding this statement: "that "they shouldn't...

How many of you shift gears yourself on a regular basis? Any issues?

Oh wow- how much did that cost to repair? :( One time I was driving pretty aggressively and shifting myself- and the coil pack blew.....ugh! Had to replace all of the spark plugs too. Wasn't sure if it was due to shifting myself or just a coincidence.

How many of you shift gears yourself on a regular basis? Any issues?

Haven't really seen too many posts on here regarding transmission repairs- which is a good thing! Was wondering if frequently shifting it in the manual mode causes additional wear and tear. Or was the XLR built under the assumption that this feature would be used a lot by some drivers? My...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Hi gsbarry.....thanks for your detailed description. Was able to take it to an independent Corvette shop (Welcome to Top Flight Corvette Inc. - A San Diego Auto Specialist Shop) and they were able to fix it for $200, instead of the $1500 Marvin K Brown wanted. They replaced part # 15 in the...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Well, I didn't mention the oil leak, the burned DRLs in the headlights, the Lockpick iPod integration issues, the check engine light, and a few other things I've learned to live with ;-) The dealership admitted to breaking a sensor while installing the trunk struts. At least they agreed to...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Thanks for your empathy! Yeah, really weird that the car has been pretty reliable for 5 years that I've had it (2009-2014), but has really gone downhill recently. A bit of background- before this car, I previously owned a 1990 Miata, a 2003 Honda S2000, and a 2005 V6 Honda Accord. Miata was...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Hi CC- I bet you are right- hope it's just a simple "re-learn". What is odd is that after they removed the trunk struts, they had the whole trunk propped in a very far up position (higher than it normally goes) for at least 24 hours. That definitely could cause the position sensors to get...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

One of the Corvette places called me back, and they said that this a fairly common problem for C5 and C6 Vettes. In the old design- the rubber sits flat; the factory didn't install lubrication when they installed it- so the dry rubber against the dry aluminum causes wearing. The revised version...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Hi CC, As always- thanks for your detailed help!!! You have a great deal of XLR knowledge! I went and saw the car up on the lift at the dealership. Basically, item # 15 in this diagram has completely warn away on the left rear (it has a 3" round pad that presses on the spring): Suspension...
