Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Hi Rusty- EXCELLENT points!! thanks for sharing It doesn't state that the leaf spring is damaged- so why would that need to be replaced? I should ask to see it up on the lift. Does it have cracks in it? And yes- can't the pad just be replaced instead of the whole unit? Even though they are...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Just looked- and my reservoir is round. The original owner (2005-2009) must have had it replaced. Pretty bad that the replacement is now having issues! After filling it up, the Stabilitrak light went away. I read somewhere that any issue with the traction control, steering, or suspension...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Hi CC, Thanks for sharing your story. Seems like a lot of dealers are jumping on the "replace all shocks" bandwagon. The shocks are supposedly sealed, so I don't understand why leaking is such an issue. Must be a design problem? All I know is that I will never purchase another car with it (e.g...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Just figured out the electrical issues- Fuse # 10A blew. Swapped it with a new one, and everything is working again (map lights, trunk lights, HomeLink).....whewwwww! Glad it was a cheap and simple fix.

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Also- since Marvin K Brown is making at least $2000 mark-up on parts for a set of shocks----I wonder how often they are making the recommendation to people to replace these? That is a lot of pure profit. I really can't tell a difference in ride quality after they were replaced, so there was no...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Thanks for the insights. The idea of taking a video of the car before bringing it into the dealership is a good idea.....it's a shame it has come down to that! Although, I'm not sure that I would have thought to have included the Homelink and rear trunk lights in the video. Those just aren't...

Which brand of burned CDs and software plays without skipping in the XLR?

Hmmm.....hadn't thought about cleaning it.....it plays original CDs with absolutely no problem at all. It's only burned CDs where it struggles. Could help solve it?

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

I should have consulted you guys before plunking down all that money based upon a wrong diagnosis. Hope they don't try to stick me with the cost of having to repair the electrical issues. They claim they are not related to the shocks. All I know is they were working fine before I brought...

Which brand of burned CDs and software plays without skipping in the XLR?

I wonder if the newer XLR's (2006 and up) have changers that can read burned discs? I test drove a 2006 model before I bought my 2005, and it played burned CDs fine. That same CD will not play in my 2005. I've tried burning on iTunes as slow as 1x, and no luck. A bit of bummer to have hundreds...

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Thank you for the quick response! Is the troubleshooting tree something that is posted on xlr-net.com, or is it just in the dealer's shop manual?

Help! $2800 wasted on shocks; rear driver side too low; electrical problems caused the dealership

Hi All, My dashboard had the message: "SERVICE RIDE CONTROL". The dealer, Marvin K Brown, informed me one of the front shocks was leaking. The ride quality seemed fine, but the rear driver side tire had only about 1/2" clearance from the wheel well, while all the others are 2 1/2". It was...

Which brand of burned CDs and software plays without skipping in the XLR?

Hi everyone, The most unreliable part of my XLR is the Coastal GM Ipod Lockpick. In the 5 years I've had it, it's broken here and there at least 8 times (sometimes for a few days and sometimes for a few months)....ugh!! Have seen posts where folks are saying they have been able to burn CDs and...

    New shocks!

Hi everyone, Bit the bullet and ended up buying my shocks on Ebay using this vendor: multiparts1 on eBay No tax, free 5 business day shipping, total was $2,377. Great deal considering the dealership wanted $4,391. Saved over $2,000!!!! Their mark-up is insane. Part #'s for 2005 model: Cadillac...

    New shocks!

Hi Mitch, I have to replace my shocks soon- they are starting to leak and the rear driver side is lower than the rest of the car. How many miles does your car have? How much did the shop charge for labor? Did you purchase the shocks online or through the dealership? Thanks, Mark

    4th of July- decorate XLR

Was wondering if anyone is decorating their XLR for 4th of July? Trying to figure out a way to attach flags or something like that to the rollbars and not have it flutter at highway speeds with the top down. Any ideas or photos? Thanks, -Mark
