The key latch in the rear bumper is strictly mechanical. It should unlatch the trunk, but the trunk will NOT go up. You have to lift it up manually. This is the fail-safe method for getting into the car if your battery dies, so there is nothing electical involved.

It could be an oil leak that gets a little worse under higher oil pressure (hard acceleration) or a leak that gets 'slung" onto the manifold due to the higher G forces. Do you notice any leaks around any engine seals close to the exhaust manifold? It could also be a small exhaust leak, but...

There are also a variety of channels and drains to take water away from that area (as well as a bunch of other areas). Be sure everything is clean and unclogged. Cycle the top until it's 1/2 way up (or down) and be sure everything is clean around the rear 1/4 window seal; follow the channels...

The battery, and everything else, is epoxy-ed in. You can go online and get a cheaper price; have your local mechanic install it... and learn it to the car. The others can't be far behind if one of them has gone. You may want to replace the remaining ones on your next tire replacement.

I've had similar issues with my M2W when the battery voltage gets below a certain point. My resolution is: AFTER the battery gets charged up (I now have a battery tender), I unplug the M2W "brain" for ~30 seconds or so and plug it back in. I then reprogram it to my preferences and I'm good to...

Actually, he does (or the company does). THey were delivered one vehicle of each model year with ther exception of the last year. I can't recall if they got one base and one V for the V years.....

It looks like your trunk lid may be a little cockeyed on the way down. A straight, level, and aligned trunk lid won't cause this issue. I haven't seen it before.

The first thing you should do is to verify that the header latch is indeed closed and that the switch is indeed defective. Try to pull the caps off of the top by the header (when the top is closed) and be sure the latch is indeed latched (insert torx wrench and give it about 1/4 turn or so)...
