Pretty Chinese Women
I have been down the offshore route too with manufacturing. I have a lot of pictures of pretty women on my Skype account from different companies around China. This is not the way to go for making a low volume XLR headlight. Crazy enough, I have an American company can...
Anybody Got Some Beat-up Broken headlights
It sure would be nice if someone had some broken, beat-up non-functional front XLR headlights I could 3D scan. The first 10 pairs of new headlights should cost buyers 3k, then 2k thereafter, maybe even down to 1k later. They could be better than the...
Wow
Wow, wonderful pictures of the radar unit. I never have seen the inside of that module before.
I would start with replacing that 100 micro farad capacitor.
Stock Air Intake
I bet you have the stock air intake in your XLR. Under hard acceleration, the stock air intake (stupid engineering) does not allow enough air to enter the engine a that moment and a little partially unburned fuel is entering the exhaust system before the ECU can compensate.
The Ebay seller you whine about, fully understands the market rules of "Supply and Demand." As a Ebay seller myself, I would have done the exact same thing if the opportunity presented itself to me.
Yup
This is why I want to manufacture new headlights for this vehicle. Quite a few XLR owner's will pay $4500 or more for a pair of headlights if it means they are able to drive the vehicle again. This lack of part availability is only going to get worse.
Cost and Efficiency
Interface modules cost money, take up space, use extra energy resulting in slightly more strain on the alternator and a little less fuel economy. Nice.
How?
The buttons on the steering wheel are controlled by the CD changer. Do you have to have a interface module between the radio and the buttons somewhere to get that functionality back? The BOSE Amp is controlled only by Class 2 messages. Is there an interface module to control the AMP?
My XLR is Fine
My XLR is fine. I just wanted a headlight for 3D scanning so I could eventually manufacture them, so you and other XLR owners don't have to put up with this B.S. I am very sorry about what happened.
It's pretty Integrated
The radio in the XLR is pretty integrated. Remove the radio and you loose a key component in the onboard Class 2 network. No BOSE amp (which I really like), no ONSTAR, warning chimes, CD Changer, steering wheel control and satellite radio. All because aftermarket radio...
Denso
The radios in XLRs are not AC Delco, their made by Denso. AC Delco makes better radios; Denso is a Sh*t company that refuses to work with other companies and designs obsolescence in all their products. I can see why Cadillac chose them. I almost was able to poach a Denso Engineer at...
You can't Locate What Isn't There
You can't locate parts that don't exist! Delorean owners don't ***** anymore because there are companies out there that make new Delorean parts. One company sells new Deloreans (~$16,000++).
Hen's Teeth more Available
I can't even find a really damaged LH light for 3D scanning (RH reversed isn't working- design too complicated). I have been tracking down recently wrecked XLR's on IAA but the idiots actually throw away the head lights during dismantling. I bet they wonder why there...
Not a Big Deal
Yes, there is a bulb (fluorescent tube) and it's replaceable but it's housed inside the LCD assembly and quit fiddly to get to. It would be best to replace the whole LCD assembly which is around $80 to $140 from Hong Kong and takes around 45 minutes to replace ($150 labor). But...
No Important Endevor is Easy
I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate here, and nothing more. I visited 3DForecast's site Forecast 3D - About us and it's comparable to some of the rapid prototyping companies I've been involved with for aerospace applications.
And Baja 500 rally's. They make most...
I've done this before...
A good point but nothing would happen to the headlights. IF and a big IF I had a pair, I would take them to the scanning company and they would do a proper and through evaluation only (which has not been done yet) and we would discuss the true feasibility of it. If...
A Good Point
This is a really good point and something to consider. Also the brackets holding the lights in place, the light adjustment guides, the connections to the motors that turn the lights could also be unique. I just get a headache thinking about it.
Yes, but...
It's thousands of points recorded on a three dimensional xyz grid that digitally mirror the scanned object. Some of the less expensive CAD programs (like the one I happen to use) tend to really corrupt the data when doing any kind of geometric flips. You are right, if I stay out of...
