Mesh Grilles
Kenny:
Welcome to the clan. My 2008 XLR has upper and likely lower mesh grilles by E&G Classics. A quality product. There is an E&G logo on the upper one. With a bit of searching you could likely find Stainless Steel Mesh of the same (1/4") size. There are also places that can...
Corsa Exhaust System.
I don't recall the sound of the Factory Mufflers, but I do not like the sound of the Corsa setup I have on my 2008.
I prefer a V8 Rumble instead of a snappy stacatto drifter sound.
I do get a bit of resonance in the cabin. I find it too loud and unpleasant.
I don't know...
Wheel advice
I will not likely be able to get the photo posted here, but check my Avatar pic. They are Z-06 wheels or copies I am told. Mine are 18" and 19" are also available. I highly recommend Chrome over polished Aluminium with Clear Coat. If you google XLR, there is an endless amount...
Tire Sale at the 'berg
Sandi:
What size are the tires you have for sale?
If they are 18" I am interested. Likely not 18".
Still lots of snow here and 12ºF tonite.
Gord.
Run Flat Tires
When I purchased my 2008 XLR last September I went for a new set of 'Run Flat' (Extended Mobility Technology) in Good~Year parlance. P235/50ZR18 97W.They were eventually obtained in the USA.
I saved the 2 best tires, and was amazed at how heavy they are. The evil unsprung...
Rear Anti-Sway Tube.
Today, 18 March, I was able to get the Anti-Sway Bar (Tube) measured for Wall Thickness.
It is Part # 15806422 6YX. Ultrasonic Thickness readings including heavy paint was 4.3mm.
The nominal wall thickness of the tube is likely 5/32" or 0.156". Weight is about 2 lbs vs 8...
Programming Garage Door opener.
Caron: I have a rather ancient Stanley Garage Door opener with only 5 dip switches. Instructions seem only to apply to 8 switches.
I have tried many times but it does not work with my 2008 XLR. I have tried 'off' for missing 3 but to no avail.
The home link...
Anti-Sway Bar
The part number for the Bar I received was 15806422. I remarked to the parts guy that it seemed light weight and thats when he told me it was Tube. I may get it Ultrasonic Thickness tested to see how thick it is. I would estimate by the thickness of the two walls at the end that...
Anti-Sway Bar
Thanks for pointing that out Al. I meant Channel not washer, so some of the load will be carried from the underside of the Bar end. Sort of a wrap of 0.100" SS formed around the bottom of the stamped end and drilled for the link stud. An "L" shape would also work.
Likely...
The parts for the rear Anti-Sway bar from my dealer arrived.
Only $292.23 Cdn.!
I was surprized to find that the Bar is actually a Tube!
Anti-Sway Bars on older GM vehicles used to be Solid. Weight saving!!!
Apparently they are prone to breaking at the Link Hole on some GM models.
If it ever...
I intend to do it on ramps in the Spring. It was -24ºF this AM. Garage floor is a bit chilly. In Volume 4 of the Service Manual, 16-60, GM advises removing Tires and Wheels!
Geee, my Tires always come off with the Wheels! That suggests unloaded suspension, wrong to me and others. "When...
MarkSki. Received your PM. There seems to be differing opinions on the suspension state when installing the Anti-Sway bar.
Some have done it loaded, some unloaded. I will try the ramps first.
To me it seems unloaded would work best but apparently it goes well when loaded. Thinking about it...
I am advised Anti-Sway Bar parts are in. There is a couple feet of snow to be melted before I do the install! I only got it late last year and found it a smoother ride than my '96 CE Vette. Didn't have a chance to really toss and turn it...
I am also working on laser cut SS XLR hat pins and...
Thanks Stella: It will have to warm up a bit first! A heated steering wheel is not much use when the vehicle is garaged for the winter.
No run-flat Snow Tires available!
