The SC has it's own coolant circuit. It i s not connected to the engine cooling system so if it was low you may have a leak somewhere. It has it's own coolant pump mounted on the passenger side fender and heat exchanger mounted in front of the radiator.
Welcome Joe, an XLR would make a good addition to your complement of Caddies. As you probably have already found out the XLR has a lot of technology built in and is a lot more complex than older cars. It does help if you have some troubleshooting skills and don't mind getting your hands into...
Replacing the thermostat fixed the problem. Haven't had that message since the thermostat was replaced back in 2013. Replacing the thermostat is about a 20 minute job. One of the easier things to replace on the XLR. Have a new gasket and some Dexcool antifreeze handy to top off as you will...
Mag Ride Discription
FYI, here is a blurb on the benefits of magnetic ride control quoted from Cadillac's literature:
"The XLR also is one of the world’s first vehicles to be equipped with Magnetic Ride Control – electronically controlled, magnetic-fluid based real-time damping. The system...
Glad you were able to fix the problem. It's a good idea to flush the brake fluid every two or three years due to hygroscopic action of the brake fluid.
Just remember if you put taller tires on that your speedo will no longer read correctly and also that you should keep all four tires at or...
Glad to hear one of our members was able to help fix the problem. Sounds like something that should be checked on all XLRs when possible just to make sure the fuel pump has a good ground. Grounds to the frame are something that can deteriorate over time due to exposure to the elements. I...
The message "Engine Hot - A/C Off" on the DIC is really misleading when in this case it actually means the engine is not warming up to the correct temperature in a prescribed length of time. I suspect displaying the incorrect message on the DIC is a simple software programming error by GM. It...
Engine Hot - A/C off DIC message
I replaced the thermostat on 12/18/13 at 69,501 miles because of the message on the DIC. I now have 80,310 miles and have never had the problem again over three years later.
Just got back from a 2,500 mile trip with no problem. Still impressed on how...
Sounds like a good idea. It's not hard to remove the headliner. Once it is removed you are looking at the bottom of the roof panel.
If you look at the picture of the XLR that lost it's roof panel in the link I posted you are actually looking at the headliner still in place, just with the...
You need to inspect your top very closely before driving your car any further. Several on here have had their top panel separate from the rest of the roof while driving due to failure of the adhesive used to attached the top panel. See the link below:

Mag Ride vs. Conventional shocks
Something to consider if you are trying to save money and can't afford new OEM shocks, but you will sacrifice some of the ride, performance and handling designed into the XLR.
I would never suggest spending $5,000 at a dealer to replace the shocks when you can...
Adaptive cruise and a wood grain heated steering wheel were two sacrifices we all had to make when purchasing the more expensive "V" model, but I think you found where the difference between the V and the base lies when you punch the gas! Tough choice, but personally I'm OK with it.
I wouldn't...
This has to be a common problem with the normally aspirated Northstar engine. The intake mainifold is plastic and over time the bolts loose tension and have to be re-torqued. This has happened on my wife's STS and it was a real easy fix to just tighten the bolts and the problem went away. Any...

I don't think getting liability insurance coverage for the XLR will ever be a problem so insuring and driving it will not be a problem as long as you can accept only having minimal liability coverage. If you are involved in an accident and it's the other persons fault their insurance company...
I think we have reached a point where if you depend on your XLR for transportation you may want to consider replacing it with something else. Those of us who don't use our XLR on a regular basis will be able to keep our cars even if they are not driveable although I never thought about turning...
Just saw a blue XLR last week while on the island of St. Thomas in the Caribbean. Those roads are crazy up the side of the mountain so didn't have my camera handy as we drove by. Top speed on the whole island is 35-40 Mph, but great top down weather all year long.
