Giz, thanks for the update. I would have liked to have gone and driven my 1990 Allante', but had a local car show here that I had already volunteered to help with. One of our Allante' club members did call me at the last minute to tell me he was trailering his Allante' up there for the event.
I just got to look at a friends CTS-V sport and watch it park itself. Really cool car. He traded in his CTS-V on the V sport for better gas mileage. You could spend a lot of money keeping up the XLR for what those monthly payments on the CTS-V probably are, but you are saving a lot of your...
Welcome from another Infared 2006 owner in Texas. Probably a lot of carbon build up in those cylinders that needs to be cleaned out. Sign up for the Texas Mile this Spring, that should do it.
I'm thinking about removing my fog lights, replacing them with a black plate filling up the hole that is left and installing vertical LEDs similar to those the new CTS and ATS in/on the plate. Can't do much with the headlight assembly, but I don't use the fog lights anyway and that would give...
Your XLR suspension is essentially the same as a Corvette so any shop specializing in servicing Corvettes should be able to help. It's probably just a broken spring height adjuster, but the Cadillac dealer will want to sell you a whole new leaf spring just to replace the adjuster which is...
The compound used in the manufacturer of tires in the sizes that fit the XLR and XLR-V and for that matter any high performance car is very soft compared to that used for a regular daily driver and it wears significantly quicker in normal use and even quicker with spirited driving. On the plus...
Hi Bob,
Really miss attending the event. Lots of good memories. Sorry to hear that you needed surgery, but hope that it's all better after your recovery.

Lextoy, Thanks for the Odyssey battery information. My Delco started getting weak and I have not had good luck with Optima batteries so I ordered the Odyssey 34R PC1500 and installed it today. Perfect fit and based upon the specs it should provide a lot more reserve than the Delco which had...
That's way cool! A lot better than dragging your Tech 2 around with wires dangling on your feet (Why did they put that connector there anyway?). And a lot easier to read while you are driving.
Interesting comparison, makes me glad I am keeping my XLR. But now for the other side of the story..... I'm sure there are a lot of great things about the new Vette that the XLR does not have other than being 10 years newer??? I do think it is the best looking Vette yet.
That must be some pretty tough plastic. I would have imagined that anything made of plastic would have been beaten to pieces with the shocks hitting it by now!
What a disappointment the ride must have been to some owners who never knew how comfortable the ride in their XLR could have been...
Wait a minute, you have had problems with one GM dealer so you have decided that all GM dealers are bad? There are several dealers in the Houston area that can fix your XLR. I didn't say it would be cheap though!
Try checking out the XLR Registry tab on this site to see other XLRs built and you can add yours to the list. Cadillac XLR Registry | 2008 Cadillac XLRs and XLR-Vs | Cadillac XLR Net
I suppose if you followed the removal and re-installation instructions verbatim you could spend an hour doing it. I didn't drain the coolant and didn't disconnect the hoses and just separated the housing and swapped the thermostats and then topped off the coolant. About 15 minutes and that was...
I had the same issue a year or so ago. It's a standard thermostat, same as any Chevy 5.3 or 6.0 liter V8 and takes about 10 - 15 minutes to change. Two bolts on top of the engine. Don't let them feed you a line like that!
I was doing about 131 at the 1/2 mile mark. Mine shifts into 5th gear at about that speed and the RPM drops so much that it is a slow climb from there.
Are you asking about replacing the little bulb located to the inside of the center of the headlamp assembly? If so, you have to remove the headlamp assembly to replace the bulb. That can be done by removing the inner wheel well liner to access the bolts holding the headlamp assembly to the...
