Might check that none of the potentiometer s are loose. Theycould have the drive pin worn. Read the values of them with the scanner and write it down check it to see if it changes. The secure light can come on for any of them being bad but not usually when its down only when its latched.

Bill what brand did you get. New ones will hold the trunk open. In fact you have to pull a bit on it to get it to close. You nay have gotten bad struts but ive done maybe 30-40 and thats never been an issue. Now if the pump is running and closing the trunk thats another issue
