New Guy from VA 2006 XLR

Welcome John, located in Alexandria VA. Looks like our Virginia numbers are growing, when it warms up maybe we can have a mid Atlantic get together some weekend. Enjoy the car, they're a blast and head turners as well.

    The Weather Channel

Northern Virginia reporting in... Woo woo, weeks of snow, cold and rain and a predicted Saturday of sun and 68. Time for a wash and wax, then a top down cruise.:spin:

    The Weather Channel

Got mine on the road yesterday. Northern Virginia/Dc area hit 65. Top down, sun shining, it was great to cruise a little round town. Rain heading this way for the weekend :( but it was great to get a taste of what this car is all about again.

    Help! Service Vehicle Soon Message

Thanks all. Sounds like the BCM is the most likely candidate, which is where my mechanic was heading. There is no indicator light showing, just the Service Vehicle Soon message in the DIC, so doesn't sound like ECM is the culprit. Thanks for the explanations Cadillac tech. Problem that exists...

    Optima Battery

Brochure looks great, which battery fits the XLR? Was wondering if its a close fit or you'll need to do some tinkering. I'd also like to check the cranking and reserve power to compare with the standard battery. Keep us posted, sounds like a great alternative so far.

    Help! Service Vehicle Soon Message

Thanks for the info, I can at least pass it on to the tech here hopefully he can find out something that way. Maybe someone else out there has a similar experience as well, or one of our techies has an idea.

    Help! Service Vehicle Soon Message

Fred, Thanks for your update. I hope Cadillac tech or someone else may have seen this as well. May I ask where you service your car, maybe my tech can call and get information from the guys over there. The problem right now is, the warranty will not replace a part without some direct indication...

    Help! Service Vehicle Soon Message

I've had an ongoing issue that has my GM XLR-Certified Master Technician mystified. I have an 05 XLR 30K miles that randomly displays the "Service Engine Soon" light in the DIC when I start it. This weekend it came on and I went directly to the dealership, message displaying in the dash. trouble...

    Water Leak

I have a similar leak, though minimal in the same area. It happens only at a car wash or when hose is directly aimed at the upper part of the window. It's evolved over time, so I assumed the issue was aged weatherstripping to be replaced. I only use the car wash randomly in an emergency, so I've...

    Rear swaybar parts list '04-'09

XLRKen I'd appreciate the updated parts list. I honestly hadn't thought about making the upgrade, but after reading everything that's been written here, sounds like a must do...

    Speedometer Question - Curious

I've noticed that the dash speedometer and the heads up display are not exactly the same. A few mph difference. Any idea which reading is more accurate. I'm assuming the digital readout of the heads up is the most accurate and set my cruise control and reaction to law enforcement sightings...

    The Weather Channel

Northern Virginia reporting, it finally stopped and the sun is out. Final total here is 38 inches. My XLR remains cozy inside the garage, not so for my friends 2001 Corvette pictured below, hope his car cover does its job.

    The Weather Channel

Help, I thought Virginia was part of the South? I'm in the DC area, and after 27" we are now in the middle of a blizzard. Expecting another 11 - 18 inches. I just finished digging out, here we go again. You think chains will work on an XLR? :D I'm sure a plow on front would cause codes from the...

    The Weather Channel

I thought we were in Global Warming Northern Virginia here, 15 inches last night and its still coming down big time. They expect it to continue through 10 pm tonight, 2 foot is expected. Don't think the XLR is getting much exercise in the near future.

    Engine cover removal

Chicago Dave is correct, I have done it myself . First remove the oil filler cap (make sure the area is clean, don't want anything falling into the engine). Then the front lifts up like it is hinged in back (its not), after the front is raised the back also lifts off.

    Mesh Grille Technical Impacts

LATEST UPDATE: :( After waiting two weeks for diagnosis and parts, the lower grille was removed and replaced with a stock grille and the supporting sir deflectors that funnel airflow up past the radiator towards to air intakes. A day after getting the car back the "Service Vehicle Soon" message...

Retro Week - show us your first car!

My first car was a 1970 American Motors Hornet. I believe I destroyed all picture evidence that I ever drove or owned one

    Mesh Grille Technical Impacts

Here's the analysis from the GM Tech. After reviewing the engine data, the code is being set around 40mph. Based on the GM bulletin about lower grille changes, he said "the issue is that normally behind the side lenses there is no air intake. The center piece allows air through and there are...
