XLR-V engine oil and super charger oil

Different motors take different oils. A 50 weight is like molasses compared to the 30 weight. Stick with the correct oil. Then that 20 at starting against a 5, again, that is very heavy. The oil in a supercharger is a special oil for the supercharger. Only ever fit the correct oil.

    Help! Electric issues

Can I reinforce what CC is telling you here? The BCM (if required) is easy and low cost. BUT, as CC has pointed out, if the harness ends have a corrosion problem then you need specialist help. I doubt the dealer would try to do it, they would likely either refuse or bring in a specialist...

    Help! KEY FOB ISSUE SEARCH

Be aware that testing a battery with a volt meter is a so-so business. Testing with a battery tester is much better because it puts a load on the battery. A failing battery can show a reasonable voltage when not under load, but as soon as even a slight load is applied, that voltage can drop...

2006 Damaged Wiring Harness repairs and replacement + Modules

The BCM uses harness ends that could match your description. The BCM is under the passenger's feet.

    Help! Check engine light

"Wires" especially in the context of a mis-fire on a gas fuelled motor commonly refers to the high tension wires from the coil to the plug (via the distributor if it is old enough, coil pack if more recent). The "wiring" is typically the "harness".

Good going for a motor that has no wires. It is coil on plug.

    Battery keeps running down

If you have reason to suspect that a fob is keeping your XLR awake, don't forget it is being in range that counts, a door or a wall is not necessarily able to attenuate the signal enough; for example, keeping the fob on the other side of the garage wall is a known issue.

How to open trunk using the valet key.

Is it possible to do this? The starter is high up in the valley. However, the alternator is low down at the front left. WARNING, the following can crush your fingers, use a tool! Once you have the deck lid open and battery power restored, you can test the latch easily, though you do need to...

How to open trunk using the valet key.

It is a while since I did this. IIRC the top of the key turns to the left, but I'm only about 55% sure! It turns against a modest resistance, certainly not a stiff one. It is possible to break the release mechanism if you heave too hard, others have done that and then there is going to be a...

Pull the release handle on the floor, next to the door. Don't shut the door until you have the hood up and can charge the battery (or fit a new one).

ENGINE HOT - A/C OFF message on DIC

I can't comment on if GM have a bad batch of thermostats, but the design which makes it most likely that when a thermostat fails, it fails open is clever. It is possible for a modern thermostat to fail closed, but that is rare. If the DIC message is present, then P0116 should set. P0116 sets...

ENGINE HOT - A/C OFF message on DIC

It is also possible that you have the wrong thermostat fitted and it opens too soon. Some owners like to run their engines with a low opening temperature thermostat, I don't know if you know the full service history of your XLR. A technician should measure the temperature of the coolant when...

ENGINE HOT - A/C OFF message on DIC

It might be useful to understand what is going on here. The "Engine hot" message does not mean that the engine is hot, it means that the engine might be hot. This situation arises because the engine management computer can't work out what is wrong. What it 'knows' is that the engine isn't...

Help! The furture of the XLR

Maybe this needs thinking about a different way. What is wanted is a headlight unit that: * Fits in the space * Looks about right * Meets legal obligations * Can be adjusted * Casts sufficient light where it is wanted * Has the same wiring and bolt pattern To achieve those does not require an...

Help! The furture of the XLR

Are the left/right headlight assemblies a mirror pair? Optically they might not be, given driving on the right, lighting to match?
