    It's official..I'm a moron.

Much the same applies if you are going to work on your XLR and need to disconnect the battery. Open a door FIRST, THEN disconnect the battery (and trunk if you need it). Ok, you can re-connect the battery and open a door, but it is easier to remember "leave door open and don't shut it while...

    Fuel pumps

The right hand tank being full of gas does not mean that the venturi pump (the Siphon Jet Pump) has failed (though it might have). It means that it isn't working, which is different. If the power source for the pump has failed, then it won't pump. That power source is a supply of gas from the...

    Fuel pumps

Your XLR only has one electric fuel pump, it is in the left tank. Now, if you consult the workshop manual, it will describe how to remove the fuel pump from the right hand tank, it means the passive pump in the right hand tank. If you turn to the fuel system description at around page 6-1214...

    Fuel pumps

Two fuel pumps is news to me. There is a single electric one (IIRC its in the left hand tank). However, there is also a venturi system that flows fuel between the two tanks and it is possible that this system might be called a fuel pump by some. It does pump fuel, using the fuel flow from...

Help! Looking for certified XLR tech in Michigan

Are they clones? I'm no expert on this, but my understanding is that the GM official ones were made in China. The official ones also have either a GM badge, or the badge of one of the Divisions. It has been discussed that the unofficial ones do not support every function of the official ones...

Help! Looking for certified XLR tech in Michigan

The fault starts to sound like a defective switch. In the workshop manual, if you can't find what you are looking for under "roof", try "folding top" or "power folding top". The major section starts around 8-610 and is under the general heading of "roof". If any of the conditions that...

Driver tail light assembly GM part #20756025 for sale

Will these wire in easily? Euro spec vehicles also have different rules regarding what comes on when, so there is possibly a different wiring loom, or a different setting in the BCM? If the BCM has a different setting, it will be 'all Euro', so various other features will be different, such as...

GM Press Release Tail light tribulations

Do you need the amber (euro turn signal), or is the red enough anyway? Does the red change from dim to brake intensity?

Help! Just put a set of tires and new sensors on my XLR.

Try letting a lot of air out of the tire. You will need to pump them up again. A low pressure will trigger an alarm in the sensor and the system will notice the new sensor while in learn mode. Doesn't work for all systems, but I'm told this is often what GM dealers do. Maybe somebody can...

    Fuel Pressure Relief Valve

As you have identified, P0171 and P0174 are lean conditions, both bank 1 (171) and bank 2 (174). You should read the workshop manual before carrying out these procedures, especially how to activate the fuel pump safely and to purge the system. The workshop manual diagnostics only include a...

new (to me) 05 XLR- won't start.

You have received lots of good information. The following is much more time consuming and you need to be confident of what is going on if you want to try it, these notes are offered for you to use at your own risk. You need the full workshop manual to locate every module on each data bus...

    2004 Cadillac XLR Rebuild

I don't know exactly what the defect was, but in some way the timing cover didn't fit snugly on the end of the engine block. The fix for the leak was, IIRC, both an improved design of timing cover and an improved (thicker) gasket.

    2004 Cadillac XLR Rebuild

You might want to check the front of the Northstar for oil leaks, the 2004 had a manufacturing defect resulting in a slow leak. With all the belts off and radiator out, replacement (with a new improved gasket) (the fix) is real easy, though you do have to take the front steering out too, which...

    Help! Where is the battery?

An XLR that has been stored for a while might have battery problems. XLRs act strange when the battery is not exactly right, with sometimes crazy and inexplicable behavior. There are many threads on this site discussing the problems and new battery choices.

05 XLR battery went dead now car is crazy...

With respect to the Tech, what evidence is there that every module is burnt out? Lack of communications does not mean a module is burnt out, it means that there is a lack of communications. Has there been an attempt to get the modules tested individually? With regard to lightening strike, the...

    Trim height adjustment bolt replacement

The XLR, like the Corvette, has transverse springs front and rear. The shocks are of the variable rate type, controlled as you have mentioned by a magnetic fluid which can change its viscosity on command, resulting in variable stiffness/damping. The spring rate is a characteristic of the...

    Help! Brake lights stay on

To anyone who hasn't seen these connector blocks/harness ends before, instead of being bolted together (and the BCM still has some of those 'old style' ones too), the design has a plastic catch that pushes forward over the end of the block which at the same time releases and separates the two...

    Help! Brake lights stay on

Is there any possibility of getting more information out of the dealership? Tightening a connector is an unusual thing to do with modern harness ends, how did they go about it? I'm assuming it was the BPPS to BCM connector, which is BCM pin 31 connector 2, circuit 5380 (Tan) (in 2004), and/or...

    Help! Brake lights stay on

On replacing the brake pedal position sensor (BPSS), it has to be re-calibrated. This takes five mins with a Tech-2. It is almost trivial to do.
