I've been around here for some time, but I decided it was time to take the plunge. This past Saturday, I picked-up a 2008 XLR-V Alpine White LE. This vehicle has been around the forums for some time - it used to belong to forum member Big Duck. I'd like to thank Big Duck for the smooth and...
Look, you can do what you want. You're a grown man - I assume. That being said, your entire attitude in this thread has been juvenile and strangely negative about the good deal HOF managed to get. Real car enthusiasts look out for each other and offer help, especially when asked. You have...
long tall sally, I suggest you either post your internet "source" for this information, or you stop commenting on this thread or any other thread about this vehicle. If you cannot back-up your claims, I will report you to the site admin for spreading false rumors about another member's vehicle.
Giz,
Which exact set-up did you end up using? I saw both ZR1 and Z06 fronts mentioned in various posts. What are you using in the rear? Which sway bars are you using? Also, are you using the OEM V shocks?
Being a Subaru dealer - in Tucson of all places! - doesn't really help the dealer. An XLR (V or not) is the same to then. They had probably never seen one before, so they jump online, do a quick search (private dealer stuff as well general listings) and see what these things trade for. As HOF...
For the price paid, a buyer would still come out ahead with anything under $10k in "gremlins". I have not seen this car that HOF purchased, but I inquired about it with the dealer to make sure it was a legit listing. It was, and it sold within 2 days - as it should have.
The vertical chrome fender "vents" were only on the 2009 model XLR's. A previous owner must have purchased new fenders and the chrome vents from GM and added it later. The vents are fake however. I believe chrome wheels was one of the only options you could get on XLR-V in 06.
I would assume most tech-savvy buyers would do this. However, I have only seen one XLR-V listed for more than the gavel price at B-J Scottsdale - which was somewhere around $67K. This particular gentleman was asking something north of $80k, but I have seen the same vehicle pop-up from time at...
I think the reason for that is having multiple competing parties who got hyped up on it some reason and went into an ego-war with each other. Never seen another V sell for anything remotely close to that value. In fact, I have not seen a single XLR leave the market (i.e. be sold) for more than...
Nice! I saw that car pop up, and I thought, "That price has to be wrong!" Red isn't really my color, so I wouldn't have moved on it, but from a financial standpoint, that car car was probably $10-15k under true market value depending on how much haggling you did. Good buy!
It's my understanding that any swap of base C5 or base C6 wheels should fit just fine under the XLR bodywork. Not sure if the 17" wheels from the C5's will clear the brake calipers, but that's a separate issue. The 18/19" combos should be fine. The wheels from the widebody C6's (GrandSport...
A red '09 V just sold at a Subaru dealership in Tucson last week. It was a STEAL at $33,000 asking. Had under 20k miles if memory serves me. I sent an inquiry to the dealership about it, but it sold - as it should have - in about 2 days. Good luck, the '09 is a rare car.
If you take a look at all XLR's for sale nationwide, you'll see prices that are all over the place. It seems '09 carries a hefty premium even for Platinum models with average miles. Unfortunately, I think the "Nieman Marcus Edition" only adds a little bit of value to these cars. Being an '04...
