Thanks for the advice both Ruby and Micky.
The question remains though.
I have an excellent relationship with my Cadillac dealer who know this car well (and like it a lot!). We are all scratching our heads over what is wrong, with the view that although the head gasket is passing all the...
Agreed.
There are no signs of problems with any of the spark plugs. Oil and sump good. Oil filler cap also good. No smell of coolant in exhaust.
Car is early 2004. Year is in title of this posting.
Water pump was replaced. Can't find any evidence of leaking from any external source...
This is very useful information, thanks.
The pressure test has been repeated with engine hot and once again it passes easily. However, compared to cold engine, the pressure did drop about the width of the pointer (ie hardly anything at all) in about 80 seconds, compared to over three minutes...
Hello all
Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the left bank (2, 4, 6, 8) cylinder head with engine in car?
The official way is to drop the front and rear subframes and work on the exposed engine, there is no mention of in-situ, even though there is a special tool to hold the timing...
'Morning all
Has anyone found a means to test the coolant pressure cap? Yes ok, I could buy a new one. However, if there is a straight forward way to test the cap is keeping the pressure below one bar, I am interested to know how it was done.
TIA
In my official two volume set, the wiring diagrams are embedded throughout the two volumes, there isn't a single section of wiring diagrams. The two volume set I have is very comprehensive, however each of the two volumes has far too many pages and they are falling apart. It makes sense to me...
You might have to contact them, wheels change design very quickly, so now discontinued? Or else it is a DUB center cap and not a DUB wheel, always possible.
Got it thank you Micky. On the inside side of both left and right hinges. I was looking for a variable length adjuster, not an absolute stop as a bolt head.
Vital for those both to be in place when the hydraulics are lifting the deck lid!
Thanks again.
Thats great news. Can I ask a few questions?
1/ How much force did you need to apply to lift the trunk deck lid?
2/ How slowly do you lift up? Is it easy to control the lift speed? Do you get a sense that you are damaging the hydraulics in any way? How long did it take (a few seconds or...

However DO NOT use a battery charger to attempt to apply power. Because your battery is disconnected, you risk frying all the electronics. Use a stable 12v supply, and this is...
IF you had a working main battery (and you don't), turning the key in the rear bumper also activates the hydraulic pump and lifts the trunk deck for you.
But you don't.
The 'turn the key in the rear bumper' is also a mechanical release of the latch holding the trunk lid securely closed. So...
Micky, can you clarify exactly where this "tiny limit screw" is please? Or a photo if you have one!
I went to have a look and couldn't find a limit screw anywhere in the trunk lid mechanism. What I didn't do was remove the inner trim, so the top of the angled slide isn't visible to me.
Thank you.
Aha, is that what it is. Thanks
(If you do a lot of peering into the depths of the mechanism of the top/trunk lid frames, you can see the pair on each side; and in some parts catalogs you get 'extra' struts being mentioned. Micky has explained the difference.)
Thanks
I've now worked out what you mean by two "water housing outlet gaskets", there is one on the end of each head. eg FelPro 35863. Also, the seal between this housing and the throttle body is eg FelPro 61528.
Replacing the whole casting looks easier than I first thought too. I'll update...
Regarding the rear lights, there are several threads on here about repairing them, here are two:
