Let me know if you run into any installation issues - the key that I have found is to read the directions FIRST then install. The unit seems to be particular about when you actually connect it and set the DIP Switches.
I have found that they won't indicate the XLR as being supported. I installed the Pa-11 in my 2005 with the XM harness but without the XM reciever and in my 2008 with the XM reciever with zero issues. The install takes no more than 20 minutes. Make sure you have the T-15 torx screw head so that...
Not looking at it right now I believe it is on the right side of the steering wheel controls. I will look when I head out to lunch and snap a picture if needed.
There are some other threads in here which I followed which uses the older model PA-11Vette. You can find this on ebay or other sites, but is not available directly anymore. The newer version of this is the PA-15Vette which I have not tried and the PA-50Vette which has a bluetooth module option...
If you are not happy with the coastal solution check out the USASPEC product as http://usaspec.com/ I have used this product on both my 05 and now my 08 XLR and it works perfectly with all iPods through iphone 4 and even has an aux input for other mp3 players.

I thought that the base XLR model as of 2008 had a leather wrapped steering wheel for the heated option?
I know my base 2008 is leather wrapped and has the heated option.

Does anyone else own the GM OEM XLR Cover listed above and if so do you know the cleaning procesures. I can not find them anywhere on the bag or the cover.

I have an 2008 Base and no Sway Bar. I installed the sway bar on my 2005 when I had it and as all have mentioned it does improve handling.
I have ordered the parts for my 2008 XLR Base and will be installing once they arrive.
