Help! 2006 XLR with blown Head Gasket - Dealership will not repair

Sorry you are having problems, XLR-SAM. I expect all of us here have fooled with old cars enough to feel your pain! mickeytee's advice is always good, so I expect he's on the beam here. Let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks for the info, mickeytee. You always have the low-down on these cars. Cut-and-paste undoubtedly accounts for a lot of the Alpine White ads out there and also quite a few Star Black ones.

What is up with this center stack? It's the only one I've run across that's not wood and/or aluminum. It looks blacked out, and I don't think it's just the lighting. Special edition, maybe? (I hope it's not just that somebody went nuts with a rattlecan.) Black center stack? Also, this car...

Wanted XLR WANTED - BLUE STEEL, GRAY FLANNEL, SHALE/CASHMERE INTERIOR

I hear you loud and clear on this, penndixie. I think blue steel with shale is probably the best combination. It's also incredibly rare. I think there's only one on the market now, with high miles, and I expect you already saw it. 113,000 Miles If you discover a good source for these, let...

text from the 2004 XLR factory brochure

I got the 2004 brochure off ebay, and I was a little disappointed that it's short on technical details--it's much more of an emotional marketing piece. I think Cadillac's ad agency got a little too emotional when they wrote the blurb for the inside cover, though: "AND SUDDENLY NOTHING IS THE...

Some of you have maybe seen this already--looks like it sold a couple of years ago. But I hadn't, and I thought it was worth a post. XLR disguised as 3 Chevys

    If anyone wants a V

I believe not, wprecanico. I've been shopping these cars intensely and haven't run across one with that feature. So I think it's probably aftermarket. If I'm wrong, somebody correct me--I'm still learning XLRology!

    A couple of general questions

OK, here's another general question. Is there a reliable way to tell if a car has the Platinum option? Dealers often put this in the ads, but I'd like to verify. (I've already learned that all the '09s had this equipment.)

    Happy New Year

Same to you and all the members, ducker18! If I find my perfect XLR this year, it will be a happy year for sure.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, mickeytee. From everything you say, it does look like there was a front-ender that Carfax missed. So not a good prospect unless the price keeps coming down.

    A couple of general questions

Didn't Citroen have the first folding hardtop? Maybe everybody should license from them.

Anybody got opinions on this one? I've been watching the price drift down from $19,996 to $17,200. It's a two-owner and the last owner kept it 16 years. There's a minor accident on the Carfax. I can see a few oddities, I think. The headlight washers seem to be missing. It's got the fancy...

    A couple of general questions

Thanks for the wheel info, folks! Got another question from YouTube now. (Because if it's on YouTube, it has to be true, right?) :) At about 18.5 minutes, this guy says the top mechanism was licensed from Mercedes. Is that true? Top mechanism licensed?

    A couple of general questions

STEERING WHEEL Most cars have a color-keyed steering wheel. Why do a few have black wheels even with light seats? And those appear to be missing the wood at the top of the wheel. Pic attached. ENGINE The guy in this video seems to be pretty conversant with XLRs, although he lost me a...

    Very odd Carfax report

No doubt a likely conjecture. I've had the opposite experience, too--insurance refusing to cover something I was sure the wreck caused.
