    Color/VIN mismatch

Folks, here's something that puzzles me. I wanted to look up this white XLR in the registry, and found that the VIN shows as Black Raven. Could a previous owner have had it painted? Or is someting else at work here? The car has pretty much a blank registry record, so that's no help. Ad...

    some unusual equipment

Rather a pretty example, but with some surprising equipment. Wonder if they used an agency for that suspension, or if it was a private placement? Head of display Adopted suspension 2006 cadillac xlr for sale - Austin, TX - craigslist

    just an observation--tastes do differ!

I don't myself think this one gained much from the extra wood being added. I guess the previous owner liked it, though. https://cdn05.carsforsale.com/00d06faeb0ad269284420cdbd3ddb7a11c/800x600/2006-cadillac-xlr-base-2dr-convertible.jpg 2006 Responsible for a lot of forest clearance!

text from the 2004 XLR factory brochure

I got the 2004 brochure off ebay, and I was a little disappointed that it's short on technical details--it's much more of an emotional marketing piece. I think Cadillac's ad agency got a little too emotional when they wrote the blurb for the inside cover, though: "AND SUDDENLY NOTHING IS THE...

    FrankenXLR!

    A couple of general questions

STEERING WHEEL Most cars have a color-keyed steering wheel. Why do a few have black wheels even with light seats? And those appear to be missing the wood at the top of the wheel. Pic attached. ENGINE The guy in this video seems to be pretty conversant with XLRs, although he lost me a...

    Very odd Carfax report

Here's one of the oddest bits of Carfax data I ever ran across. I thought it was weird enough to save a screenshot--attached. Supposedly this XLR hit a parked car in a "minor" accident. Among several areas affected, I was amazed to see the roof included! How you get that involved in a fender...

    Museum in Memphis

On a recent visit to Memphis, I went to the Edge Motor Museum and really loved it. It's a small place, but they have some great cars and the staff are super helpful. I'd recommend a visit very highly. See if you can get a tour from Studebaker Bob--he really knows his stuff. Edge Motor Museum

    Super dodgy ads

This is a slightly interesting list. I wish I could believe those prices from the dealers in Akron & San Antonio--on the same cars. I'm particularly taken with the Alpine White one that the factory seems to have absent-mindedly painted black! :) One of these is the blue car we saw in an ad...

    Inspections & service contracts

Been thinking about what I'll do when I do find the right car. Does anybody have a good inspection service to recommend? I've used Lemon Squad, and they haven't won my total confidence. They are good, though, in that they go to the lot (or wherever) to see the car. Dealers usually don't want...

a car that has suffered indignities

I'd like to know if those hood scoops work. That would be the only excuse I could imagine for this. But there are no engine pics, so you can't tell. If they're fake, it just makes it more awful, IMHO. should not have been done!

    Buying philosophy

I appreciate the advice I've received from the members here since I've been shopping. I'm wondering if there's a rule everybody can agree on? Let's see. As regards XLRs specifically, in 2024, and for similar prices in similar condition, is it better to buy: An older car with lower miles...

    Weird dealer pricing

Does anybody know why some dealers adjust prices up and down, frequently and by fairly small amounts? This is not just an XLR thing, but I've run across it fairly often while shopping online. For instance, look at this car and then the price history: 2004 Cadillac XLR - Lee Auto Group I...
