Dead Battery
Use the long key in the left lower corner of the rear bumper cover (open square painted plug) That will release the rear lid and then you can pull the handle to open the doors, then the hood for battery access.
No Start
Does it have warning lights in dash, functioning gauges etc and just not crank? If the Battery is completely dead, the doors won't even open. I found with mine, if I had the key fob in my left pocket, at times it would not crank. As soon as I started keeping the fob in my right pocket...
All fixed!
Found out my Dealer had bent the air cleaner tube when they reassembled after replacing the thermostat. Of course they told me I needed catalytic convertors before they found their screw-up.

Fuel Cap Campaign
There is a GM fuel cap campaign for poor fitting fuel cap which will turn on the check engine light. Have your GM dealer run a VIN search and see if your XLR needs a new cap
