    Help! Help...Brakes Locked...stuck in road

$150 an hour is fair price for a master technician with years of experience who will figure out the issue quickly. I doubt the dealership can keep someone like that when they actually pay them around $30 an hour. I think this is a EBCM or a TCM issue. Would need a scan tool to proceed further.

    Help! Help...Brakes Locked...stuck in road

Brake pedal position sensor, but the brake switch? I don't know what that is and I have worked on the XLR brake system before. Enlighten me.

    Help! Help...Brakes Locked...stuck in road

Brake switches and not basic *****es? Sounds like they meant wheel hubs?

    Ceramic coatings

I have not used ceramic coating on my XLR because it's paint is older and the color is black with a lot of minor age imperfections and touchups that I can hid pretty well with waxes. This is my opinion only, but I would sand and respray the XLR before ceramic coating. Lighter colors on XLRs wear...

Help! No power, third new Red Top Optima this year

Battery tenders are fine and I know of no tenders causing fires either. I don't mean to condemn them; it's just one more device to take care of in the garage.

    Ceramic coatings

Ceramic coating is a lot like getting married. You are stuck with all the flaws and imperfections for awhile.

Help! No power, third new Red Top Optima this year

Do a logic test with a tech2 or MDI of you BCM; it sends the power down message to all J1850 modules. It also controls the load and shed of the electrical system with the alternator. A XLR with a healthy electrical system has no need for a battery tender if it's driven once a week. Just one more...

    Radio upgrade

When you say phone capabilities, you want it just from the radio not OnStar?

    GM engineers

Look at Mickeytee's picture. Above the frame is mostly fiberglass, I didn't have to cut into the frame and I never said you could pull the tanks out. I was working on an EGR line to the canister and I only thought pulling the tanks was possible, but was not sure. And redvett94 dinging me for my...

    GM engineers

I never have actually removed a XLR fuel pump, so I can't say what I did will work and I'm not too sure of the wisdom of being in the trunk over an open fuel tank. No smoking please.

    GM engineers

GM repair procedure for fuel pump replacement requires removing the drive shafts, differential and transmission. On vehicles this old, no mater how careful you are, these parts will break. It's one a hell of a job. Most mechanics, one thousand dollars and up. Dealership...Ha Ha. Go easy, I live...

Yea, Gord is right, keep trying the fuel additives; hole drilling = last resort. Tank 2 should be on the passenger side.

    GM engineers

I had to replace an EGR hose from the right tank last year (damn *^%$ mouse). This is crude, but I worked for me. Take off both back tires, (raise the vehicle first, obviously) remove the wheel liners, you will be able to see each tank top ports on each side. Take the trunk liner out, drill a...

    Are these for real?

The halogen DC to high voltage AC inverter. Touch it live, may stop your heart. Respect them.

I completely agree with you. The design is just asking for problems.

Anyone install idatalink on the XLR

Nice picture; even better than GM's:

Anyone install idatalink on the XLR

I have not been able to use a Tech 2 to see the actual Hex messages. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's possible with a Tech 2. I use a Netway 72 series device for packet sniffing. Yea, just out sending messages without proper CRC and following bus traffic protocol can be dangerous...

Is the Bose Amp Unique to The XLR?

I could be wrong, but looking at the XLR's Bose Amp, I think it's a one off (uniquely XLR). The 2004 -2006 SRX Bose amp appears similar but it can't be tuned for those four small seat speakers and for a convertible. A local car sound specialist (Al and Ed's Autosound), which is like a swamp...

Anyone install idatalink on the XLR

The actual message structure of GMLAN (J2411) and J1850 are similar. I'm not talking about the electrical voltages, topology and data speeds; they are different, but the ELM IC can deal with that. A software program running on an energy efficient SBC that can send and receive both J2411 and...

Anyone install idatalink on the XLR

You could use the Idatalink Maestro RR (full OnStar, Bose Amplifier control, steering wheel control, backup camera...so nice) in the XLR by connecting it to an ELM IC (most OBD2 readers have them) controlled by the I2C interface on a Pi. The GMLAN messages would be sent to a small software...
