Run Flats (AGAIN - sorry) for the V

Good ideas lextoy and nerkpowers, I hadn't realized the 18" would offer up a few more options. I ended up keeping the 19s and going to a standard tire - same size all around (255/40/19). We are going to see if living w/o runflats is OK, probably to be determined by where and when the first...

Run Flats (AGAIN - sorry) for the V

Cubby - good point on the repair/replace - I've been thinking about that false sense of security, great if you are near home but bad if you are on the road. I typoed my post - my intent was to go with the original rear size 255/40/19 not 45. Did you go for the increased width of the 45 on the...

Run Flats (AGAIN - sorry) for the V

Well it's been about a year and a half since the last run-flat thread so forgive me for starting this up again but I am wondering if anyone has any new experience. My wife wants the run flats. Is that enough to head off the discussion of how bad they are? I am still holding out the potential...

Instrument Cluster Lit Up! Any Ideas?

If I remember correctly (check the manual), re-indexing procedure is: Window down to stop, window up to stop and continue to hold the button for five seconds in up position, release button for a second then hold in up position for 5 seconds again - so it's two consecutive holds with the window up.

    Intermittent Starting

Update: Resolved Thanks xlrlist01, you were right, it was the dash switch gone bad. Replaced it a couple weeks back and have been driving it around with no problem ever since.

    Intermittent Starting

Forgot to add - I let the car sit for couple days with battery disconnected to drain any stored charge in the circuitry and get all computers to boot fresh. Battery is operating strong.

    Intermittent Starting

Latest info: Had the codes pulled at Pep Boys - they said there were none. Can repeatably start/stop car as described in the previous post. Took the car for a drive - all appears normal. Since this could be the BCM going bad I did not operate the top, but the trunk opens just fine. I looked for...

    Intermittent Starting

You're timing is great - I just spent the morning with it and the start switch is behaving very strange. Car wont start under normal proceedure Now with foot off the brake: Touch the off/accy side of the switch and get DIC message - "accessory mode on" Touch off/accy second time and get a DIC...

    Intermittent Starting

Hey, I appreciate the analysis from any distance. Definitely thought about the defective battery (hoping for that unusual but happy answer), but I'm pretty sure it's not the battery now. Here's what happened next : (By the way great call on the brake pedal stiffness, that was a total red...

    Intermittent Starting

Thanks. I went down the thread of shifter cable last on the site and found a great write up on it, hadn't found a lot on the shifter pawl yet. Sounds like your solenoid just quit working and it wasn't a mechanical binding issue? I considered testing the battery, but it was old enough and so...

    Intermittent Starting

Need some help with my 2006 XLR-V not starting. Did a search through the forums but didn't see as many folks with this issue as I thought. Here's the background; XLR wouldn't start, had power to accessories, brake pedal moved softly toward floor as normal, shift lever felt normal, heard...

    Supercharger coolant system question

GizmoQ, Thanks much for the info! And the laugh - since I read about some of your modifications while searching for my answer I can see you haven't driven yours gently in a looong time. Mine has been running fine and nowhere near 270 degrees so I feel much better. I'll check codes and...

    Supercharger coolant system question

Had a question on the supercharger coolant system. A few months back I took my V into the dealer for a coolant drain and replace since I didn't know when or if this was done by the previous owner. Talked with the (one!) XLR tech, gave him distilled water to use, and asked both before and after...

Power Steering Fluid - Anything Unique?

Xlrlist01, Very interesting, Rolls and Citroen may be the oddballs. Lucky for me I don't have to worry about fluid for those two sitting on my shelf (perhaps un-fortunately in the case of Rolls). I do really like the idea of the miscibility test just as a matter of course. Having never thought...

Power Steering Fluid - Anything Unique?

HTH, Good idea - at least weed out any principle level incompatibility. What PS fluids have you actually seen fail this test - or which ones did you know were incompatible? All the info I found seemed to agree with Cadillac Tech that there were no fundamental differences between PS fluids...

Power Steering Fluid - Anything Unique?

Anthony, Interesting - did you ever determine if you had a leak? Luckily my pump wasn't making noise yet but it's good to know you had a repeatable cause and effect. It does seem like a pretty amazingly small reservoir. It was about 2oz from low to full as best as I could tell. Appreciate the...

Power Steering Fluid - Anything Unique?

Thanks Bruce - that's what I figured but wanted to double check.

Power Steering Fluid - Anything Unique?

Enjoying my relatively new 06 V a lot. Still getting to know it. Found the power steering fluid low (about 1/2 way up the cold mark when hot). So a system that shouldn't leak is low, makes me worry - haven't had a chance to eyeball for leaks. Has anyone dealt with power steering leaks...

    Driver's seat cover XLR-V shale 2006 only

FYI, I didn't wait long enough for march to reply to my original question and ordered the seat covers commercially before he posted, so he still has them available. Wish I had given him a little more time to respond - it would have saved a me a nice bit.
