    Coil pack failure

My X developed a very modest and occasional slight 'sneeze' or delicate 'cough', while idling waiting at lights. In park there was nothing to notice and when moving, again nothing to notice. However, not right. I plugged in the Tech II and it has a diagnostic function that displays a mis-fire...

    New owner / roof issue

That switch is a very simple device and easy to check with a meter. Make sure the harness end (plug) hasn't come away from the switch. Taking the battery out isn't likely to solve a switch problem, nor is there a reset for that switch; BUT XLRs detest poor batteries. Fit the correct battery...

    Help! Ambient sensor reset?

Glad it worked for you. I carry a small can of contact cleaner in the rear stowage; the XLR (like many of today's 'latest and greatest') depends on its electronics and problems with connectors is the #1 cause of strange behaviors. I too kick myself for forgetting to check things where I really...

    2004 XLR - Folding Top Module - B3669

It sounds like the trunk lid is not being released. Does the lid sort of swell up near the tonneau cover? If so the hydraulics are working fine, but the trunk release isn't releasing (press the remote again to stop the pump). If you use the key in the rear slot, it mechanically releases the...

    electrical issue

Replacing the battery (or at least getting it checked thoroughly) is a starting point, as XLR's display many gremlins with a poor battery fitted. However, you do state "an outstanding mechanic" and at that point it does point to more serious problems, sad to say. If there are no codes, it...

    Help! Ambient sensor reset?

There is no reset I am aware of, it should just work. As it is reading too low, check for a high resistance, use some contact cleaner on the connectors, see if that fixes it.

    Latest Satnav technology

Thanks. This is a slow-time job.

"Engine Hot AC OFF" on DIC. Temp gauge sweeps then stays at pointing to far left.

This has been discussed before, a long time ago. IIRC the message is mis-leading and there is an electrical problem, probably minor. From memory it goes something like this. The message says 'hot' because the ECM does not know what temperature the engine is, but does know there is a sensor...

    Persistent P2098 code

The Cadillac workshop manuals have generally been written to minimize the cost of repairs, with careful sequences of tests before reaching the 'change module' option.

    Latest Satnav technology

Thanks Rexster. As that started five years ago, I was wondering if the latest technologies had moved on over the last five years and what unit others would recommend for today.

    Latest Satnav technology

Hello all Well, sooner or later the OEM Satnav will show its age and in my X, it is taking 2-3 mins before it can read the nav DVD, then it mostly works fine but sometimes takes a long time with directions. So, I am considering options to replace the entire unit. What are the best options out...

    Widest Pirell1 Zero Nero Tires?

If you Google "tire rim to width chart" you will get a chart. The 18" wheel is either 8.5" width or 8.0" (I forget which). Ideal for 8.5" is 235 or 245. Max is 255. (If the rim is 8.0", subtract 10mm from those numbers.)

    Fuel tank problem

The XLR fuel system empties the passenger's side tank first, then the driver's side tank. Working normally, the passenger tank is emptied before the driver side starts, though fuel is being pumped between both tanks all the time. This depends on me remembering that the main fuel pump is in the...

Help! No power, third new Red Top Optima this year

Be very careful doing this as you can easily kill your meter. You need to put a heavy duty cable in parallel with the meter and leave it in place for some time after you reconnect the battery, I would suggest an hour. This makes sure everything has shutdown and is in sleep mode. Also, make...

Resetting TPMs - single chirp at start, expecting double chirp

Solved. I followed this method to re-program the new TPM sensors. I sourced the tool recommend here (post #3, thank you Ian) I purchased four new sensors from GM: part number 25758220 (AC Delco use the same number). I had the new sensors fitted, tire pressures set to 30 psi. Next, roof down...

Resetting TPMs - single chirp at start, expecting double chirp

Thank you Ian. As I put in my first post, I am fitting NEW TPM sensors. That is why they need to be re-programed. My point about the old sensors is that even at 17 years old, the old (original) ones are still working, if slowly. Thus I take the view that new sensors supplied by GM are...

Resetting TPMs - single chirp at start, expecting double chirp

Thank you for that Ian. I remember that I will get one chirp per wheel (two at the last wheel), it is that first chirp before the first wheel that is unclear. So, the manual you have states one chirp at the start. If anyone wants to go and prove this in their X, it is a simple test...

Resetting TPMs - single chirp at start, expecting double chirp

I'm back where I started, with the same question anyone?: Does the reset the TPMs process start with a single chirp or a double chirp? I get a single chirp, the workshop manual states I should get a double-chirp. Using the EL-50448 reset tool (thanks Ian) has not worked, I don't get the horn...

Help! No power, third new Red Top Optima this year

If you have a fully working battery tender connected and it is showing fully charged, with no problems, then the parasitic draw on the battery doesn't matter, the tender will be providing enough to cover that. The tender I use goes through a series of different charging profiles until it is...

Resetting TPMs - single chirp at start, expecting double chirp

Thank you all for your replies According to the workshop manual and this thread here: Tire pressure re-set tool, the horn should chirp twice (not once) at the start of the reset. What my memory says is that it starts with a single chirp, and that the double chirp is a mistake in the manual...
