Resetting TPMs - single chirp at start, expecting double chirp

Hello all I was planning on re-programming the (new) TPMs on my 2004 X but have gotten stuck. I go into Accessory mode fine and press both buttons on the remote. After 3-4 seconds a get a single chirp, I'm expecting a double chirp. So far I haven't managed to get a new sensor recognized...

XLR rear end hops over bumps

What tires do you have? Isn't 30 psi the correct pressure? I find that too high on my X and run 28 (I'm not on run-flats). Run-flats had a higher pressures (stiffer sidewalls). I have checked the pressures with a contact-less thermometer. The temperature should be the same across the width...

    How difficult to replace shocks?

I don't think the code will clear after 24 starts. That system is to clear a history code from memory, ie a code that has been there and is now no longer present and hasn't been for 24 starts (the number of starts required might not be 24, just some number, usually a few dozen). After some...

    Suspension Data for Possible Upgrade

Yes, I fitted the Hotchkis set front and rear. If there are different grades, I don't recall which I fitted. The front is bigger than stock and hollow, that is all that comes to mind. It was a long time ago. The 'middle' setting on the rear fits with my memory too. I had to use a silicone...

    Suspension Data for Possible Upgrade

The simplest reason not to is the risk of causing over-steer. As the back of a car gets stiffer it increases the risk of over-steer. All manufacturers dial (huge) amounts of under-steer into their road cars, however on the XLR this can be unwise as the active suspension can stiffen up...

    How difficult to replace shocks?

Acetone works very well on thread lock. It takes about a minute to work its way in. (And yes, acetone is nail polish remover, that is what I use, on a q-tip.). As no one has mentioned the electrical plugs, I assume they just come off with no problems.

New member Gene & Gina from Oklahoma ‘06 XLR Base

I'm not 100% sure why a plastic sheet will help? The water, if it comes into the trunk, will creep under a sheet. Actually, it can flow under the sheet easily, from where it will pour into the well containing the pump etc. Apart from keeping rain water out of the trunk in the first place...

Replace front shocks - query re top plate and electrical connector

Thanks Long Tall Sally. I guess we all make silly mistakes from time to time and this week it is my turn. I'm not looking at the top of the shock!! Which leaves the question, what am I looking at? (Just curious). If you move about a foot nearer the front of your X, on top of the chassis...

Replace front shocks - query re top plate and electrical connector

Hello all I've read many (all?) of the posts on changing the shocks and am left with a bunch of small questions, if anyone can oblige: 1/ Where is the electrical connector on the front shocks? 2/ How do you get the top off the shock? Is it necessary to use circlip pliers to squeeze the...

Help! Engine shut off while driving

My understanding is that the anti-theft module will not stop a running engine, it will prevent it from restarting. My finger of suspicion is fuel rail pressure.

Help! Starting problem with 2005 base XLR

Doesn't always work, but if the starter is failing through wear in the switch assembly (the heavy duty switch built into the starter), then typically attaching a boost from a running vehicle (ie, higher voltage) will fix it (to get started). If this does work, it points more firmly at a starter...

Printed vs PDF service manual - help?

I can't see anything like that in my printed version. I can't think I have seen anything like that in any GM workshop manual. The information will be out there somewhere, as there are aftermarket scan tools and they work out how to communicate with the various systems. Can you get a scan of the...

Help! Starting problem with 2005 base XLR

How many miles? That symptom is consistent with a failing starter through wear. Works OK cold, starts to stick when warm. Met that before.

HELP ! ! 2004 XLR ABS, Stabilitrac and Traction Control Lights ON ?

This _could_ be a BCM harness end connector problem. If so, it might be very simple. Disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes and remove the connectors from the BCM, get some contact cleaner (not WD40), spray the connectors, air dry and reconnect. As the cost of this check is the cost of...
