Agreed Gord - these cars are aging pretty gracefully. A few years ago I’d get asked if it was the “new” Cadillac model. I think light designs have changed enough I probably won’t get that question.
So some of our beauties will hit 20 this year - hard to believe it’s been that long since the first model year!
If yours is 20, what do you plan to do to celebrate? I mean, it’s a big one, oughta do something!
Mine still has a couple of years…
I had the oil pan and cam shaft leaks repaired on both our XLR’s, Oil pan leak came back on one of them. My dealer took it back & fixed ONLY that, no charge. Cadillac Tech on here told us it is very, very hard to get that oil pan on right and not have it leak. I’d tell them to try that...
If only words existed to describe this… Xenon vs. blue steel I REALLY can’t describe, maybe Xenon is “brighter”? Neiman Marcus blue and liquid amethyst aren’t the same. NM is more on the blue side, liquid amethyst more on the deep purple side.
Try googling for pictures on the internet or...
I agree on bless Rob for keeping this forum going. I often wish there was a way to download the whole thing and keep it forever … so much of a goldmine here.
Agree with the above that if you need parts, they can be hard to find and expensive, especially any exterior lights. I hope if you’re using it for commuting that home and work have at least a covered parking space, or that you get a good cover. As a hard top convertible the car has a LOT of...
I had that happen when the trunk button in the cabin got a little sideways & stuck down on one side. Doesn’t sound like that was involved for you but may be worth checking into. Once the button was realigned all was well (& I switched to using the fob, easier to replace that than if the button...
So good to hear you taking this on and it sounds like you’re on the right track. The V dashes have been gone for a while, the leather tends to bubble (even when we’ll cared for) & the usual solution was just to replace it. So, even though you have a different problem, that’s why you can’t find...
Anddddd … due to a bum ankle the V ended up with an expired inspection, couldn’t take out on the road, and so it just got it’s second wash of the year today. Happy 6 month bath anniversary!
Mickey -
What we bought was sold as factory GM and had the emblem on it, but either the box or part was marked as made in China. It’s been a few years so I don’t remember for certain, but I do remember an internal commentary about Chinese manufacture. Anyway, it’s a moot point - and of no...
I’m interested. We can bring our two XLR’s too.
Rob, please highlight this! This a a visually “busy” site, it would be great if this doesn’t get lost in all of that!
Rod - thought I could help you because we got new ones for about a $100 a few years ago. Not great, made in China but serviceable. GM Part no. is 19330404 if you want to search. This place claims to have it, don’t know anything about them or if it will end up out if stock once you order...
Glad you decided to keep it! I’m not sure there are any more active XLR forums out there, I truly miss the get togethers. We still have both of ours but the traffic here has gotten 10,000 times heavier and more aggressive/insane. Bad enough my next daily driver is going to be a big truck...
Sandy - wish you wouldn’t. And I think you will wish you hadn’t if you do. If you change your mind, getting a nice one is getting harder and harder. Plus you know there’s no ghosts in the machine on yours.
But, you gotta do what you gotta do. Sounds like this is the coolest car you have!
Yay, roughly 6 mos. later I’m the first to have done anything “postable” with my XLR. Took the V out to stretch its legs today, been a LONG time since it’s been out. Low 60’s, sunny skies. Tomorrow we get a wintry mix …
As a follow up, that video discusses Cadillac not knowing what it wants to be (like that’s new!). Husband took out our V for a run yesterday and said it “is such a beautiful work of art. I will never understand why Cadillac crapped all over it and the program.” Again, because Cadillac DOES...
Did not have those, had USAA and another that I can’t remember. Very worth it for expensive oil leak fixes. USAA was golden, the other one gave us a bad time. BUT it is very hard to find any decent warranty once you get past ten years old. Best to try to set money aside for repairs at that...
We also have a black XLR & like Richard Yoo have switched from Optima to Odyssey. Just did it so can’t report on long term use. Also came up with a solution for the connectors to the battery breaking after years of going through replacement batteries.
Thanks for posting that James. Entertaining and amusing video.
Among other aspects of an internal combustion engine, few things are better than sending a message with your exhaust note. I’ll miss that when EV’s get crammed down our throats and take over.
