Finally got around to digging into my 2008 XLR air bag light on intermittently.
It turned out to be a loose connection in the "Passenger Frontal Deployment Loop, Stage 1, open".
Typically, the repair would be to "replace everything" until the light goes out. I tried a more thoughtful method.
The loose (open) connection turned out to be alongside the glove box. The plastic sockets were fine, nice and tight. The wiring harness checked at 2 ohms until I gave it a wiggle or two. Then is was intermittent.
1) I carefully examined the wires, then disassembled the plastic socket and all seemed fine.
2) I pulled the wires (yellow and orange) out of the socket looking for the break near the terminal end. Oops, nothing there.
3) With the bare terminal ends in my fingers, I inserted the male terminal into female terminal. The orange had a little friction and felt like a good connection. The yellow male and female terminal ends had almost zero friction when inserted.
4) I used a stiff small gauge wire inserted into the female terminal end (backside) and bent the internal contactor. Verified and had a good connection, male and female terminal ends and re-assembled into the plastic sockets.
5) Put everything together and the air bag light has been out for a month.
I won't go into the process to fully disarm and safety the system prior to working on the air bag system, It's readily available on the WWW.
The air bag control module behind the radio, Pins 9, 10, 30, 31 connect to the passenger side, Stage 1 and Stage 2.
Connector alongside glovebox connects to the above air bag cntrol moduele, pins 9, 10, 30, 31.
