My XLR/V(s)
XLR-V silver 2006
I have a 2006 XLR-V. I'm have been having the following issues:

1. Waste Gate sticks so motor light is on.
2. Screen reads Motor Hot/AC OFF
3. The top Motor tends to not want to shut off. Which I have already replace the pump in it.

The Last to issues are intermittent.

Has anyone out there had these problems and what have you done to fix them. Please help. I inherited this car from my Mother and it might becoming a money pit. It only has 46K on it. I really don't want to sell it.

1. I assume you are talking about the bypass valve on the supercharger, waste gates are on turbo's. What makes you think it's sticking? Check all your vacuum and pressure lines. If you have a Tech2 you can check the bypass valve.

2. What is the temp gauge reading, is it really hot? I had a bad connection on the wire coming from the cooling fan, check and clean that.

3. If you aren't low on fluid, I got nothing.

Thank you for responding.

1. I had the code read for the motor light being on and I was told it was the supercharger. Sometimes the light goes out. I do know this happen when my mother had the car and my brothers friend pulled it apart and cleaned it and it was fine for many years until now.

2. When the screen shows Motor hot/AC off the temp gauge will not work and the AC will not work but the motor is not getting hot. I have talked to Cadillac and they think it cold be a temperature gage or the sensor. What are your thoughts?

3. I have not checked the fluid. I assume I would have to pull the truck apart to get to that pump to check it correct?

I appreciate your expertise because I know nothing about Mechanics.

If you have the code it might help, but it is hard to diagnose the problems from a distance. I really would like to help but I don't have enough information. Are you saying your temp gage doesn't work at all? You can check the fluid in the trunk on the drivers side, inside the small compartment in the floor of the trunk.

Yes the temp gage do NOT work at all. The AC doesn't work either when the screen reads Engine hot AC/off. At a cold start when that is on the screen the fan kicks in which I was told it shouldn't. A co-worker was out as I was leaving and I showed him the screen and he told me to pop the hood. He said your fan shouldn't be running at a cold start. He also said my hoses have good pressure which tends him to believe that the thermostat is sticking open. Another mechanic thinks it is a sensor. Have you known if any of these car have had electrical problems?

Thank you for your insite.

Yes, electrical issues are common and are often bad connections. The fan should not run when cold but if the control unit thinks it's running hot it will tell the fan to run to protect the engine. You may have multiple issues, you need to know the engine temp, check the sensor. First things first.

Number 2. I had a similar issue, though mine is not a V model. Tstat was stuck open. Changed it out and it fixed it. It's a cheap part. And worth doing anyway with these older cars. The electrical system is a bit wonky and some alarms are kinda glommed together. You might not be overheating at all, it could be engine not warming up actually. Your symptoms sound like what I had.
