New Inside Rear View Mirror/Dims Itself and Side Mirror

Thanks, Ian! The part number is the one you listed. I have pressed the 'power on/off' button several times, held it for a couple of seconds as well, nothing. So there's a problem I'll have to figure out. Hopefully it's in the mirror because I can exchange that! John B.

New Inside Rear View Mirror/Dims Itself and Side Mirror

So, I sprung for a new inside rear view mirror since the one that came with the car was broken and couldn't be adjusted. Genuine GM part through Rock Auto. Installed it and started the car and instantly, every time now, the left hand outside and inside center mirrors dim. Lights on/off, doesn't...

Rexster, any updates so far? John B.

    Transmission Fluid and Filter Change

Just an update to my original post that seems to have gone way off-topic. I ended up taking my 04 to an independent, well regarded shop in Tempe, AZ called Tri-City Transmission. I had them change both the automatic transmission fluid as well as the differential fluid. I received a three page...

Footwell and Mirror Lights Stay On - 2004

I was kind of embarrassed to say the reply above was the reason mine were staying on. I must've hit the button by mistake and forgot it was even there for that reason. John B.

    creaking noise in front suspension

The above part number shows the "stock spring adjuster bolt stop pad" as being sold in a set of two. Will I need a set of two for each corner or does a set cover both wheels on the axle? Also can anyone give me the short version on how to replace the bolts? Thanks, John B.

    Transmission Fluid and Filter Change

I have a touch over 91,000 miles on my '04 and I'm willing to bet the transmission fluid and filter are stock. Disregarding talk of 'permanent' fluid and the lack of info (I searched this forum), I'd like to change it out. From my basic understanding, there's no real easy way to fill the...

    creaking noise in front suspension

Anybody have the spring adjuster part numbers for an '04? And what is the replacement procedure? Thanks in advance! John B.

    Trunk sinks closed after opening

I'm thinking of asking if I can be the next one to receive that tool. I can't compress 250 lbs and wrestle that into position by hand! Let me know, please. John B.

    Trunk sinks closed after opening

RonXLR, how did it go? My new ones should be here tomorrow. From the looks of it, I'll need to prop the trunk open, gain access to the bottom attach point, pop the retaining clips, r&r the gas cylinder and reinstall retaining clips and trunk trim. What else goes wrong? Seems there's always...

Footwell and Mirror Lights Stay On - 2004

Without having made any changes to the lighting system in months, lately my footwell lights and the under-mirror lights have decided to stay on at all times (until retained accessory power/r.a.p. shuts them off), whether I'm driving or parked. Pretty annoying at night. Has anyone else seen this...

Page 6-53 in the owner's manual tells all about how to air up you tires and let air out but I se nothong about what pressure?

I'll run 30 in town and up to 35 if I take a trip, sacrificing a little comfort for a bit lower rolling resistance. I was careful to make sure the outer edges of the tires weren't lifting off the road surface at 35 psi, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. John B.

    Wind Screen

Installing a WindRestrictor (brand name) also means you have to remove it any time you want to clean the inside of the rear window. It completely blocks access to the glass. Not a big deal, but it's one of those things you don't think about until it's there. And, yes, the reflections are real...

    Cooling System Tee Disintegrated

From my original post in this thread: "which is fortunately located just behind and just underneath the drivers side of the airbox/air filter housing" John B.

    Help! Engine Air Cleaner

I installed the Volant system on my '04 without incident (I looked up the part myself and installed it without assistance in about 15 minutes). It makes the car louder under wide open throttle, but that's about it, barring other mods. John B.

New tires and can’t do a burnout

I can smoke my Michelins (stock size). I have a hard time believing Hankooks would be stickier. Is your tire pressure 30 or above? I turn off TC, stop, hold the brake pedal, floor it and gradually ease up on the brake and voila, black marks. John B.

    Cooling System Tee Disintegrated

If anybody is still running with the original plastic tee, they ought to get the brass parts from LTS. The original part is bound to fail sooner rather than later at this age. John B.

    Help! front shocks

Golhock, you could also reuse your front control arms, replace the bushings with Energy Suspension polyurethane (black OR red) and install new ball joints. That's more economical, just more labor-intensive. RockAuto also has all those parts. Jhn B.

    Help! front shocks

$360.79 per shock on RockAuto for genuine front shocks. You can get a code for 5% off easily (PM me if you need one) and that usually covers shipping. No tax. If you want to spend more, go for it. Some people replace the leveling bolts at the same time-a quick search on here will turn those up...

    Wind screen

I have a WindRestrictor brand deflector, just plain glass, but tinted. I guess it makes some difference, but it's not huge, to my estimation. There are a couple of downsides: You can't reach the back deck or the inside of the back window to clean. The one I have produces a lot of reflections...
