2004 XLR FOLDING TOP POSITION SENSOR KNOWN GOOD "COUNTS" - TROUBLESHOOTING

If you're planning to install a resistor in place of the thermistor (these are very different components) I don't recommend it. (First Rule of repairs: DO NO HARM.) I have disassembled the pump from the manifold, and removed the impeller housing, isolating the pump motor. I started writing...

2004 XLR FOLDING TOP POSITION SENSOR KNOWN GOOD "COUNTS" - TROUBLESHOOTING

Installing a resistor bypasses the protection the thermistor is designed to give, and I wouldn't recommend it. That would be in the same league as bypassing a fuse with a piece of wire. The short answer is, Don't. If the pumps weren't susceptible to damage, the thermistors wouldn't have been...

    Reconditioning/Remanufacturing Hard-Sourced Parts

I feel your pain. Too bad we can't get a schematic of the interior of the modules for repair purposes. . . To avoid any confusion, there's no such thing as a hydraulic control module. The folding top's hydraulics are controlled by the Folding Top Control module, which you've already...

2004 XLR FOLDING TOP POSITION SENSOR KNOWN GOOD "COUNTS" - TROUBLESHOOTING

The grey and tan wires are the pump thermistor outputs. Someone tried to bypass the thermistor by tying them together outside the pump. I see two splices on the line with what looks like a smaller gauge wire between them. Can't tell if there's a really low-wattage resistor in there under the...

    Help! Rain coming in

Under normal conditions, all of the water running down the windshield will flow into what's called the Plenum Chamber Drain System, and then downwards on the outside of the plenum to the underbody. The right side of the car has a proper tube/drain. To access the drains, you need to remove the...

    Important! Brakes gone wild!!

By the time it happens and you regain control of the vehicle, (if required) it might be too late for your shorts. The only thing left to do is disable StabiliTRAC and continue to your destination. Your choices are: 1. Repair whatever is causing the problem. 2. Drive with willful abandon...

    Help! 2004 replacement key fobs

You can opt for the newer-style fob, (which is more durable anyway) or find the original fobs on ebay. Examples of both are available on ebay. CC

2004 XLR FOLDING TOP POSITION SENSOR KNOWN GOOD "COUNTS" - TROUBLESHOOTING

The position sensors can output counts from 0-255; the Reference Counts are the stored values when compared against the reported actual counts. All other sensors output a Status. Other Messages reported on the DIC when the Folding Top Control Switch is pressed: TOO COLD FOR TOP OPERATION TOP...

    Help! CD's won't eject 08 XLR

I was always able to get the trim ring to slide down using pressure with my fingers (before the condensate from the beer bottles made them slippery). CC

    Right front headlight assembly

I only spent a minute checking, but car-parts.com (specializing in used parts) has a selection of head and tail lights in various conditions for prices that are a little more reasonable. $4500, besides being out to lunch, (what a greedy, "savy" seller would call "market price") is for people...

    Help! CD's won't eject 08 XLR

Very easy to remove. Maybe a 1/4 beer job. Three, if you take your time. 1. Drop the trim ring on the shifter and use a T-15 to loosen the retaining fastener to lift off the shift knob. 2. Using plastic (never a screwdriver!) trim removal tools, gently pry up the center console trim, working...

    Help! interior color names

As depicted in the parts list, (and the picture you provided) the waterfall and upper (burl) trim piece are furnished as a two-part, dual-color assembly (as opposed to two sub-assemblies). Unless someone parts it out, the assembly is identified by a single part number, which I provided. Each...

    Help! interior color names

GM often uses different naming conventions in their brochures and on their websites. The parts list differs sometimes too. There are only two colors listed for the parts you need for the year of your build, ebony and burl. Ebony is black. I think you've already answered your question. CC
