I just purchased a 2006 xlr with only 7500 miles on it... man is it awesome... when I tested the car I put the top up and down maybe 5 or 6 times... it worked flawlessly... I have had the car for a week and I put the top down... then drove awhile and the info screen gonged and said top unsecure... I put the top back up and the message remained... I put the top back down... and then the trunk would not close... only a clicking sound from the passenger rear part of the trunk... I tried and tried until a message showed top motor overheated... I turned the car off and waited... then put the top up... the message went away... I tried again... same result... top will fold away but trunk wont close and only clicks... then the top would not go up... I turned the car off... waited a few min... then up it goes... then when the car is going down the road I got a top unsecured message... I turned it off... waited then put it down and up again message is now gone... any advise?

I have read the forums and people say they upgrade the software... what does that mean...and how is it done...

(my other caddy is a 1976 Eldo... no software to upgrade)

This is a really awesome car and I have been waiting forever to get one in this shape that I could afford...

also any tips on what to look out for or preventitive measures to take for stuff... also is there any way to upgrade the nav disks or recommended place to purchase the upgraded or newer maps...

also any great mechanics in the dfw area?

Thanks
Ray

Frank Kent Cadillac in Fort Worth has done a great job working on my XLR.
Every time I have been in to the shop I have seen at least one other XLR and as many as 3 so they have people that know the cars. If you research the forums you will find that top issues need to be looked at by someone that has a Tech 2 and not to many shops except the dealers will have one. With it they can reprogram your top. As far as map updates when I bought my 07 I contacted the site that issues the updates for GM and asked if my car had received the 2 free updatrs that the original Window sticker said was included. I gave them my vin # and contact info and they sent me the latest disks free of charge. It never hurts to ask!

Welcome to the forum!!!!

As far as the NAV disc the latest disc upgrade is from 2009 and GM has no intentions on prodicing any further upgrades for our NAV system. As for your top issues, I have noticed that when there are cycling issues with the top....you have to complete the cycle. Make sure that the trunk partition is secure. If at anytime the trunk does not close then use the button in the trunk to close it. Try putting your top down again, if it completes the cycle properly you will hear a beep. Then put the top up, again if it completes the cycle properly again you will hear a beep. If this does not work then have your top looked at by a cerified tech.
