Follow-up on previous discussion, where it was reported that one XLR (V?) had been converted to a manual transmission. Does anyone know its history since conversion - who, where, pictures of console etc? Coach says I can't touch Black Beauty:bash:, but.... Thanks all, see you at Mid-O!

6 speed manual

I was involved in the last "discussion" of a 6 speed manual for our cars. Mallett Cars did the conversion for a GM division President. As such, I doubt it will ever see the light of day, as far as we're concerned.
The cost quoted to me at the time (last year) was 15K. Without the kind of information you ask for, I am really leery about undertaking it. If it gets screwed up cosmetically, or shifts sloppily, or rattles or......or. yer kind of screwed. It might not be "reversable" without another 15K.
Plus Mallett cars is over a thousand miles from where I live, so fixing chronic complaints is out of question.
Let me know what you find out. I would still love to have a "shifter"!

Good hearing from you - enjoyed talking in BG. If Mallett did the mystery car, I would have thought they would have documented the conversion photographically (I think that's a word LOL) in the hopes of selling future conversions to folks like us. Therefore, I'm a little surprised that someone from there hasn't responded to either this or the last discussion.

Following up on a follow-up - klaptrapper may have inadvertantly hit on why we have never seen the mystery conversion - maybe it didn't quite work as well as hoped for!?!

Would a relatively easier, reliable alternative be to put an XLR body on a Corvette frame with engine and manual trans?

just wondering,,,,,

Other than the die-hard 'love-to-shift' guys,,,,,I wonder why you would want to shift manually. I'm relatively sure that the computer can hit the shift points much faster than the 'hand & left foot'. Technology has changed the game.....imo

I'm sure people who don't drive and prefer walking, biking, or mass transit, have a similar question, eg "I wonder why you would want to ... drive?".

Getting from point A to point B faster, while I'm in control more so,,,,

Good question,,,,,, I guess we can blame it on Henry Ford for inventing the mass production of the automobile, and the revolution that it changed the world and got people off horses and out of the covered wagon? I'm happy to see that some people prefer walking, biking, mass transit to reach their destination, as many of them don't belong on the roads.

If I lived in Houston,,,I'd take the bus as well  j/k
