2006 Base Infrared (SOLD)
I mentioned last year about the car creaking a little when turning corners, turning in driveway. After a little research I found that one reason was maybe the grease in the differential old or the wrong type. Or the axle nuts being torqued to wrong specs.
Back in December I bought the 3 qts required for a complete drain and refill and new axle nuts. I waited till I had a few more small things that needed to be done at my local shop. Last month I took it in and had the axle nuts replaced and torqued to the proper specs, the differential grease drained and replaced and the shift control cable that had been replaced last year needed to be adjusted as it wouldn't go into park correctly.

I didn't notice a difference so much the first week or so, but after driving the car for a while, the body creaks went away. Not saying this will help every XLR, but it did in my case.

Suspension Issues

Thanks for the information. My front and rear suspension makes a ton of noise.

I just had the differential fluid replaced and that helped out a lot. But there are still noises.

The dealer said the tie rods are shot and the bushings are loose and neither can be serviced.

They quoted me a price of 1300 for parts alone. I wanted to purchase my own parts. Any ideas what parts they may be referring to that need to be replaced. They would not give me the part numbers.

I have an excellent local mechanic here in West Columbia. He's a car nut and knows Corvettes which make it easier for him to work on my XLR. I would imagine the upper and lower control arms have more to do with creaking and pops than the tie rod ends (of which I have replaced one with a torn rubber boot). He's replaced the radiator, shift linkage cable and the already mentioned work. I'm sure that there are local mechanics in your neck of the woods that can do the same thing. And mine will install parts that I have purchased and just charges his labor time which is considerably cheaper than the 150$ or more that a dealer gets And I would have a problem with a dealer that would not specify the parts needed. Curious, which dealer did you go to?

Could you PM me your mechanic in West Columbia. I have not had any luck in my neck of the woods. I may drive the 50 miles if the quote for service is right. Thanks.
