Hi  new to the group and already have a question.

I have a 08 XLR trunk wont open and the top wont go up? I did some research about the TechII anyone have any luck with this. Took it to the Cadillac Dealership and they wanted 100.00 to tell me it wasn't working before they would look at it. I asked them if they would pay me 100.00 because I came in and could tell them it didn't work. You can imagine how that worked out for me :dunno:

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

I had a similar problem earlier in the summer. (although it might no be the same as yours) The trunk lid would not open, even though the lifter cylinders would engage. The problem was the trunk latch. The latch was also the source of "Top Not Secure" messages on the DIT that plagued me for a very long time.

I purchased a replacement latch (GM #15847487 Rear Compartment Lid Latch) from GM Parts Direct for approx $300. After 2 weeks of waiting, I called and they said the part was on back order from GM with no definite delivery date. I thought... well that just sucks... it could be months before I get the latch.

I called a different supplier and they searched dealer inventory in entire US and came up with a list of 5 dealers that had the item in stock. I called first dealer, the part was committed to another customer. I called the 2 dealer in N.C. an they shipped it to me, but paid a premium of around $500.

It was easy to replace, just 3 bolts, the emergency release cable and electrical connector.

Unfortunately, I did not keep the names of the last 3 dealers that may have the part in stock.

I found the scantool (ScanTool.net LLC - Scan Tools, PC, iPhone, & Android based OBD-II (OBD2) Interfaces, OBD diagnostic software) a handy diagnostic tool for the pain in the a$$ check engine light. It pin-pointed a misbehaving Mass Airflow Sensor and I easily saved $1000 in a trip to the dealer.

Good luck
Chuck

Sorry, I can not help, never had that problem; but welcome to the forum. Hopefully Chucks answer solves your problem.

Wild stab in the dark here: I am wondering - and if I remember correctly - you use the key out of your fob into the key hole in the bumper (under that little square spot) to pop the trunk. Once popped, will the top cycle? ....or if you now push the truck open button: will the trunk open once unlatched? If so, then this would sound like you have the same trouble as Chuck. Like I said, just a stab in the dark - just a thought.

Thank you

Thank you for the warm welcomes, I will check the truck latch that would be great if that were the issue. We are also looking into getting a Tech II it sounds like it would pay for itself. Right now its parked in the barn covered so hopefully this will work.

Thank you all!!!

Welcome to the gang. I'm a newbie too - just a got my car in August. Pretty sure you'll have better luck with your problem if you post your question in the Technical Forum. Also may help do to a "search" as I don't think there are many "new" problems that show up on here. Most likely someone has experienced your issue. Good luck.
