I need to replace all four magna shocks. Anybody have a suggestion on where to get them for my 2005 XLR.
The guy said he can get them from GM because they're on Tahoe etc. but I'm looking for a better deal than $900 apiece

Haha. Well stay away from the guy who says like tahoe. You can still vet oem at about 400-450 each.
If you have a suspension light on, shocks most.likely will not fix it. You can buy some aftermarket china mag shocks for about 400$ on ebay. The jury is still out on quality and value and if they will give a decent ride. you can also change to non mag shocks for about 700$. As you need simulators to make them work. I think i have a new oem set left that im clearing out. If anyone wants them, email me at xlrparts@yahoo.com.

Ok. I pulled the trigger on the Bilsteins, just waiting for them to arrive. Once installed i expect to see the message with the 80 mph warning. Is it true that a GM dealer can disable the parameter with a Tech 2 or other code reading device? Does this eliminate the need for simulators? They want an hours labor to perform this 2 minute procedure…….HELP!

You have to install the simulators or you will get the messave. It cannot be turned off with a tech two. If you nstall the shocks and sims properly you will not get a light. Sorry i could not get back with you as i have no shipper and im dealing with beart issues

Oh man….sorry to hear about your challenges. I hope it all gets better soon….. There are guys on YouTube sticking 10 amp 10 ohm resistors into the connectors and claiming to fix this problem as well as the guy with the Tech 2. It’s very frustrating for sure. The local GM dealer will charge me a hour of labor to use their scanner to turn off the parameter, but I don’t know if this would be permanent. I also checked out your Casper Electronics sims and the guy I spoke to was very knowledgeable so this might be the only verifiable fix. I get the feeling you’ve done all the work researching this and come to the same conclusion. Wish me luck.

You can cut and splice in the resisters. The shock ones are not that hard. The ride height can be tricky because there are three wires to measure movement in both directions. 10'amp are not enough on the xlr. plus you need to provide protection as they get hot. We used to wire them in with 70-80% positive results. . we would have one go out every few months. When casper came along it was plug them in and they work. Well worth money and ease to me.200$ and 10 minutes vs 15$ and two hours plus repairs every so ovten. Ive done a dozen cars and never a failure with tge caspers.. The plug on the ride height fits good but does not lock. Just use a tiny zip tie over the top of then thru the harness to lock them togather. They dont show the xlr because they never had a car to test on. But they did up the size because of a couple of xlr failures. Those actually were due to 04-05 modules being wet and the wiring not making good connections. That can cause a higher draw and feed to the resister and burn them out. Ive never had that issue as i clean and inspect the modules. No one can turn off the module on an xlr. The corvette you can but the xlr module is not the same.ive heard claims that people found a location on the tech two but its not there. Ive never worked on a made for canada car but the part number on everything is the same so i highly doubt your dealer can do it. If they claim they can. pay them if when they cannot they they agree to give you your money back. If they can ill split the bill with you to learn how.

Thanks for the wisdom. My car came from California so the only required mod for import was a running light change to lock them “on”. I’ll proceed with Caspers. Their tech said they provide full instructions with the pkg. He added that I might have to drive it around for awhile for the warning message to shut itself off. We’ll see I guess

Ok to be clear. If you have the 80 mph light on.it will not turn it off. That is most likely a module failure. The mag shocks and simulators only work when there is no warning light or it is on and hss been diagnosised to be a bad shock or bad ride height adjuster. The simulators prevent the light from coming on when you change to non mag shocks. If you have no light on, disconnect tge battery install shocks and sims thenbreconnect you should not have a light. If you do as stated you may need a couple of key cycles to turn it off.
